Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 11, 2010 9:53 pm hi, guys, I really need you help if you have any idea or experience about my issue. We are building house with urbanedge. After the second final inspection, we realised the tone of the floor tiles (on living, dining, hallway, entry, laundry, ensuite, toilet and bathroom areas) look different. half of them are slightly darker than others. all these tiles have been put on mixedly. We talked with the builder and they refused to replace the whole lot or even just replace the darker ones (cuz we ordered the lighter tone tile). We have been told there was no tile quality problem. So we thought it could be something wrong with their order which we have no way to know. I atteched the photo as followed. I am not you can tell their differences on photos but definitely you can tell when you see them. If you have any experence like this please give us some advice or if you do not, please give any information or thoughts you have after read this. meanwhile is there any solicitors recommended? thanks a lot~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Help needed~! floor tile tone differences, thanks~! 3Jan 12, 2010 8:40 am Hi koala1 I’m no expert on the subject but I think it could be two things. We have been told that tiles can vary between batches supplied by supplier and no two batches are ever the same. We also got told that when you change tile sizes there will be a slight difference in colour even though you are ordering the same colour tile!! Perhaps you received your tiles in separate batches hence the colour difference OR the tile shop has mucked your order and given you a batch of both colour toned tiles. The tiler not knowing the difference has mistakenly laid the tiles not realising they are two different colours. To avoid this problem, our tile shop has recommended that we order ONLY 600 x 600 which we are laying throughout our house and then we will get the tiler to cut our 600 x 600 tiles to 300 x 300 which we are laying in bathroom, ensuite and laundry. That way we are getting the same batch of tiles for our entire house and there won’t be any contrast in colours by the difference batches. Good luck!! I think I would contact builder in writing to try to resolve. Keep us posted on the outcome. Re: Help needed~! floor tile tone differences, thanks~! 4Jan 12, 2010 9:17 pm Hi Vundaful! and n&n02 ,
Thanks a lot for your reply. I tried many times to post the photos in here. But the system alway inform me: the boad attachment quota have been reached. When we pick the tile in the color section meeting, staff in the builder never mentionedthe tile will have colour difference. And the manager of Urbanedge keep insisting that they did not make any mistate in ordering the tile batchs and all tiles have come with same batch. Next week, the builder will come back to work and I will keep update the outcome. Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8413 I have an investment property and tenants moved out recently.
