Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 11, 2010 7:38 pm Hello Just wondering if you included insulation in your Alfresco Ceiling and if you did, do you find it makes a difference at all (i.e noticeably cooler)? We will be getting an outdoor ceiling fan but our builder told us that the insulation won't make a difference at all for the alfresco area??? What do you think??? PS: The size of our alfresco is 3.6m x 4.3m. Thanks!! Re: Insulation in Alfresco Roof 2Jan 11, 2010 8:13 pm Alfresco areas aren't enclosed, so they don't benefit from the temperature regulation that insulation provides. This is because the air below the alfresco roof is changed so often that even if your roof is hot, the air underneath will not be largely affected A ceiling fan is all you need for comfort. Re: Insulation in Alfresco Roof 3Jan 12, 2010 8:48 am We've elected to have insulation in the roof of our alfresco area (4m x 8 m). We were also told that it wouldn't make a difference for heat/cooling, but figure it isn't much extra $ so why not. Build wont be finished until April, so can't help you much. We will have 2 ceiling fans also and will install cafe blinds around the sides for winter use. Re: Insulation in Alfresco Roof 4Jan 12, 2010 12:26 pm I'll echo Vundaful! There is absolutely NO advantage to you in adding insulation in the roof space of your Alfresco area. The only advantages will be to your buider (an extra 3c profit), the installer & the manufacturer (& they won't notice the extra 2cents either) Re: Insulation in Alfresco Roof 5Jan 12, 2010 12:26 pm I'll echo Vundaful! Also the underside of the statco or whatever brand looks nice. Installation is usually faster than what it takes to unwrap the roof, as there is a considerable amount of foam and wrap. Hello!
