Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 09, 2010 4:10 pm Hi everyone, I've been a bit concerned about part of our roof for awhile now and just wanted to get your opinions on it. The photos below shows one of our face bricks looking like it's being used as a lift for a major load bearing steel beam across the open-plan living area, and a composite photo showing the area it is supporting (curvature is due to stitching process, I promise that it's straight ) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Bricks under roof beams - is this safe? 3Jan 09, 2010 8:35 pm Yeah it looked kinda strange to me too. On second inspection it isn't actually a face brick, though it's almost identical in colour, so it might be a special raiser-thing. Re: Bricks under roof beams - is this safe? 6Jan 09, 2010 8:48 pm Clay tiles Though my roof beams definitely look more heavy-duty compared to the metal+wood roof skeleton of my neighbour, who is at exactly the same stage of building. Re: Bricks under roof beams - is this safe? 7Jan 10, 2010 12:04 pm Update: My site manager (bless his cotton socks) got back to me over the weekend and has put my mind at ease. He said that it was standard building practice to put bricks under steel beams to keep it off the roof timbers. Block of two storey townhouses requires painting on the roof. A brick parapet wall separates each unit and extends above the tiled roof. The parapet walls require sealing… 0 3497 THanks , l got a licensed building inspector to look at the rust, he said its just surface rust and it would take many years to become a problem because the beams are so… 22 28018 |
