Re: Our Places Fairhaven 23+ - All those bits and pieces. 846Feb 08, 2011 11:40 am Thanks everyone, the best thing i'm noticing now about the billy wall, is that its just there... if I want a book I can just go and grab it, no searching through stacks or boxes its utterly fantastic Finally i've got a chance today to give a taste of what we've been up too over the last few weeks since the last update. There just always seems to be one more thing that needs doing.... Still a tease of what has been underway, the inside of the house to do list is getting shorter and so we've made a start on the outside. So without further ado, We got some compost and soil delivered (this was half of it) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ IMG_0362 by Belial669, on Flickr We hired this for a weekend to help turn our clay into soil Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ IMG_0418 by Belial669, on Flickr And we had a go at wall building Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ IMG_0474 by Belial669, on Flickr Significantly more detail to follow (hopefully tonight). I wanted more. Love what you've done so far and can't wait to see your progress outside. Good job (I also think it's great that after the theft you left your thread in tact - as you said it looked like an opportunist with the things they took of little value but great annoyance to you which is probably why they did it!) PS: I also loved your security doors I hadn't seen them on here before - looks very neat! I hate those security doors with the metal grilles - yuk. We are about to do ours this weekend - weather pending. Any tips for the DIYer? Re: Our Places Fairhaven 23+ - All those bits and pieces. 851Mar 11, 2011 2:31 pm me,he&little she Hey Belial! Love the start of the retaining wall! Is it Austral Heron blocks? We are about to do our this weekend - weather pending. Any tips for the DIYer? In fact they are, If you don't aready have one i'd recommend a cut-off or brick saw with a masonary blade if your doing corners, as well as an angle grinder with masory grinding discs. The reason, if your doing ANY corners, where the capping sits you will end up with the locating tab stopping the cap from sitting down, i have pics somewhere will try to get them up tonight to illustrate what i'm talking about. When we encountered it we confirmed it with Austral rep who had just built their display wall. Its not required if u buy the blocks in queensland where they come from as they have a half width capping piece available which is formed differently and is visible in all the catalogues. Also for all that they are called heron blocks in vic they are really tasman blocks from gb masonary queensland , goto http://www.australbricks.com.au/qld/Pro ... all-Blocks and select qld as the state and they'll be listed. Their install method is a little ott, but only because you can apply the same method whether it is two blocks high or fifty blocks high. We didn't use any geofabric to anchor it back, but again its only two blocks high. Make sure you get your roadbase/crushed rock really well compacted then add some on top loose so you can bed them in to get it all level, as it stands ours is on a slight lean back but that isn't neccisarily a terrible thing. Also on top of the blocks where the interlocking protrusions sit up, there is always a little bit of the concrete mix left from the form, between the top flat surface of the block and the side of the locking piece, best to chip this out or as we did 2 seconds with the grinder to flatten it will see the next block on top sitting flush rather than blancing on that bit. Aside from that, non marking rubber mallet is your friend Good luck. The Ikea Rationell - Making it work in non Ikea drawers. http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/60177265 So we need some draw dividers for our cutlery draw because frankly the plastic insert one provided by the builder is: A. useless B. a complete waste of space. So during one of our marathon trips to ikea we saw the rationell and thought it would be good, minimal space usage and should be easy to put in. Well that was the theory, as it turned out not having ikea drawers means needing to shorten the long lengths as well as not having the correct edges means everything has a tendency to move around. Exhibit A. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 20110116-IMG_0350 by Belial669, on Flickr After removing the cutlery, the problem is clear it can all move around both the short sections as well as the dividing lengths Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 20110116-IMG_0351 by Belial669, on Flickr Tools Required - Mitre Box and hacksaw to trim the lengths all down to custom fit, drill, bits, rivets and rivet gun and the ever present tape measure.
