Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 08, 2010 12:57 pm Hi, Am at a dilemma on what type of bricks that would look better on a double storey - am debating between a really light or a dark colour, Just want to find out if anyone has seen or built a doulbe storey with Chocolate bricks - am wanting to see the effect on it. Its fustrating when you go to Austral & they tell you lot numbers to the homes to view bricks but when I get there, either the lot number is replaced with a house number or its not written or built yet. Thanks! Cream. Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Building commenced 30 Jun 10. Re: Double Storey Brick Selection 2Jan 08, 2010 3:57 pm If they only have the lot numbers you may be able to phone the local council and get them to convert it to the actual street number. I know this is what we had to do a couple of times when we were searching. Other then that if you see a newly built home with bricks you like you could knock on their door and ask which bricks they used? Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Double Storey Brick Selection 3Jan 12, 2010 10:27 am from heresay, there is news that dark brick houses are valued higher than light bricked ones - from the real estate agents & the bank. Can someone verify if this is true & why? Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Building commenced 30 Jun 10. The reason I won't be recommending any specific colour simply because I believe it is important to understand 1) the effect you're trying to achieve considering 2) the background and the surroundings. And because each situation and needs are unique they won't be just one single answer while having 100 individual opinions about personal tastes will be hardly useful. As an example, you could achieve an effect that house will look bigger by contrasting colours between the bricks and the background) or you could blend it into the environment and so on.... Understanding the basics of how colours work is simple enough.. Re: Double Storey Brick Selection 6Jan 12, 2010 1:03 pm It's such a personal choice, and it depends on what sort of a 'look' you want to end up with, and what type of facade you want. Also think about what other colours and surfaces (render, stack stone etc), and how is it all going to blend in with driveway colours and front decking or tiles. Consider the finished landscaping too. For me, I have a fairly traditional facade as we built in an established area. I have always loved darker brownish/reddish bricked houses so this is what I went for. I'm not a huge fan of cream bricks, but on the right facade they look stunning. Unfortunately, I also chose one of the most expensive bricks too....but worth every cent!! What I knew would work for me was the 'less is more' approach! Less colours, less different surfaces to blend it all in with the surrounding houses so mine wouldn't look so out of place being the 'new kid on the block'! good luck from me too!!! Its a 50% toss up for us at the momnt but those who posted up their pics make me steer towards dark bricks.... It will be either Parchment Bricks on Ironstone render & Garage door OR Chocolate Bricks with a choc redner and a light cream door ( maybe.) Have to make up my mind before 29th Jan with my colour apptmt with Simonds. Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Currently there is a house in my area that has been on the market for months - I think its a great house at a very reasonable price but its facade is a bit of a turn off because its ALL creams and beiges on the outside, so nothing pops out, giving it a weathered look whilst only being about a year old.
So yeah, if you plan on using light bricks, I suggest adding some dark features to highlight some areas. Re: Double Storey Brick Selection 9Jan 12, 2010 4:57 pm HI, I am currently tossing up between chocolate and licorice bricks with austral, and have decided that either way the white mortar is the way to go. I do know of one two story with those bricks so will try and go for a drive to take a pic for you it wont be till friday though. I have a few pics of those on single story houses so i will try and upload those pics for you tonight! V Re: Double Storey Brick Selection 10Jan 13, 2010 10:14 am ahh. thanks for that V, I am trying to get someone to do up a visual image for me - its kind of hard as my facade is a modified version and i cant find anything close online to do it! What do you think the colour of the door should be for a choc house? my other half was thinking of a red door, but I'm afraid its not going to match the interiro of the house. ( being a biegey and pastel interior) Any suggesions? We thought orange but couldnt decide on which tone. (Thats if we go choc which we seem to be steering towards at the moment..) Anyone seen or own some really outstanding doors that look nice recently. Building The Amberlea 44 Fusion Home http://www.amberleadream.blogspot.com Land settled May 10!! Apparently, my hubby says the homestead tan looks like a school esp. when we are not going to do much render except for the parepet, so wana see for myself if thats true. Thanks all! Cream.
