Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 102Jan 30, 2010 10:36 pm Vundaful! Thanks Jodie and Purp! I didn't know that ceilings went in after float, I see I see! I'll keep my eyes peeled for them next week sometime then As for the roof, que sera sera, Phil was adamant about tiles and at the time I figured I'd let the baby have his dummy (I got free reign of the interior in return though ). Plus, my neighbour has a lovely surfmist roof so I can go and have a 'colourbond moment' just by looking over the fence Oh speaking of fences, it looks like we're getting a pale green colourbond fence for the estate. Woohoo! I love green fencing I changed my avatar in celebration of my messy tradies What is it with men and their roofs??? Phil HAD TO HAVE colorbond!!! He also chose the exterior colours on the proviso that I got the interior. Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 103Jan 31, 2010 1:55 pm Aww thanks everyone, at least I know that the general public doesn't mind the roof Plus, if hubbie had been given free reign in the interior we would have charcoal-coloured walls, black tiles and dark cupboards everywhere and glow-in-the-dark star stickers on everything, whoops, pretend I didn't say that jodge What is it with men and their roofs??? Phil HAD TO HAVE colorbond!!! He also chose the exterior colours on the proviso that I got the interior. Hmmm maybe the roof and bricks are the seat of masculinity... male birds make a living out of having flashy plumage so maybe our men are just like puffed-up peacocks with their house exterior Jodie80 Very nice V!!! the new av that is LOL LOL A green fence would be nice!!! We've just got the plain cream coloured ones. I thought we would have cream too! We saw a green fence frame going up around one of the houses behind us so we figured we'd be getting cream panels edged in green, but when we looked around we noticed that both the panel/edging was in the same green themax Personally, I think the roof looks great V!.the texture is nice. My DH chose our roof too, I didn't want black . anyway, it won't be long and you will have ceilings! I can't believe the hide of some people dumping rubbish and toilet rubbish at that?? eeeewwwww....gross. Love your photography by the way, vert creative way of telling your story, I'm loving it. I aim to please! Yes the toilet rubbish was a bit of a Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ moment... Echo My site is littered with beer stubbies and bourbon cans. ( Granted some of them may be mine ). At least the old pair of boots is gone I freaked out when I saw a bottle of Wild Turkey one day, it made me go and check all the walls were plumb kek Goodness, you have healthy tradies ....judging from the rubbish left around our site (and stuffed into our kitchen cupboards ), ours lived on a steady diet of junk food, chocolate bars and soft drink. Ours too, generally... the brickies LOVED choc-chill and the roofies LOVED energy drinks We should start up a thread to find the unhealthiest tradies! Actually, speaking of energy drinks, I noticed 2 suspicious looking wet patches in the sand right up in the corner of our alfresco floor... I feared that they might be... um... unspeakable body fluids... but I was assured that it was just red bull Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 104Feb 02, 2010 12:18 am We popped in today - float finished! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The dumpers were back though, they'd dumped more rubbish over at our neighbour's house visible through the window above. I poked around hoping to get lucky like Lynne did and find some ID, but no luck Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 105Feb 02, 2010 7:40 am Hey V the roof looks great! I too would have loved colorbond but couldn't justify the expense, but I get to look at my neighbours as well My tradies weren't too bad, subway, tuna tins and yoghurt containers and mandarines! Next door's however, one day I went outside to find a LOT of empty tinnies on our boundary line, but I'm wondering if it was the neighbours on the other side instead 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Oranges...WHAT? 106Feb 02, 2010 8:06 am Ive got a bit more time today so Im reading back thru threads - just realised the meaning of your new avatar - how funny Oranges, tuna, mandarins, yoghurt - your tradies are much healthier than mine - it was Hungry Jacks and KFC wrappers here (doesnt help that Fast Food Boulevarde is less than a mile away, I dont think any of ours ever brought a packed lunch ) Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 107Feb 02, 2010 11:52 am Looking good, the facade looks really good, i'm especially a fan of the roof tiles the roofline looks quite symmetrical. Shame about the oranges etc that said it is a worksite, and its just lazyness on the part of the individual not to dispose of them thoughtfully. Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 108Feb 02, 2010 12:13 pm Hey Vundaful. . . you know, I was really disgusted at the mess our tradies left all over the place. . . mainly food and drink wrappers (looked like somebody's mum packed their lunch, with all the little snack pack wrappers floating around the place). However, after painting the exterior of our house I now understand why. If we'd took our mess and put it in the skip each time we should have done, we'd have spent most of the day walking backwards and forwards cleaning up, and would never have got any work done. . . and to tell you the truth we were so stuffed from all that working, that we didn't even have the energy to clean up at the end of each day. Yes, we ended up being just as filthy as the tradies when it came down to it. I think it's easy to be mad about the filth when we're just visiting for a few minutes, instead of spending the whole day there doing hard graft. I don't mind tidying up after everyone as much now. Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 109Feb 02, 2010 12:55 pm Thanks Belial! I do love hearing about how people like my tiles (and just between you and me, symmetrical roofs are Great! OCD part of my mind haha!). The tradies being messy doesn't bother me much, if anything I find it kind of funny doing a SPOTTO challenge with my hubbie to see how many different containers/drinks/snacks they've had in the last week They aren't too bad, I was expecting much worse, plus they do manage a cleanup every few days Plus, the oranges will be good organic material for our soil ;D Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 110Feb 02, 2010 1:01 pm OH goodo! Phil used to laugh at me when I'd go round cleaning up all their wrappers. .. I think I just wanted to DO SOMETHING! If we ever build again though, I am DOING NOTHING! I shall visit once a week (maybe) and stay totally out of it. Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 111Feb 02, 2010 1:05 pm Don't worry Jodge, I used to get the urge to do EXACTLY that (stupid female need to have things tidy!) but my Phil talked me out of it. Plus whenever I get on site I just go stupid with my camera like a kid in a candy store - rubbish collecting isn't hard to put off when there is PROGRESS to be snapped Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Oranges...WHAT? 116Feb 03, 2010 8:27 pm Hi Vunderful, Congrats on what seems to be a relatively smooth build so far!!! I keep forgetting that the "soil" in WA is more sandy compared to the horrible CLAY that we get here in VIC (rock hard on hot days and slush on rainy days ---yeeewwwww). Landscaping will be such a breeze for you since I see that your land is relatively level (unlike my silly sloping-in-all-directions-land!!!! ) LOVE your floor plan AND you have HUGE bedrooms!!!!!!! AND I love the "His and Hers" walk thru robe!!! My WIR is kind of on the teeny weeny side and I've told my hubby that he may have to use our linen cupboard to put his shirts and shorts!!!! Oooo..lucky you having the alfresco as part of the slab! I stupidly thought my alfresco was part of the slab until after I got slabbed and realised that we didn't have a "ready-made" floor to the alfresco .... I'm going to be a party pooper and say that I don't like Colorbond roofing Have you heard how noisy it gets when it rains? My current rental house has colorbond roofing and I still jump off my sofa when it starts raining cos' of the tinny noise. SO, everything is looking lovely!!! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 118Feb 03, 2010 10:46 pm Thanks for dropping by TC! We sure have been lucky with the build so far, the builder has made it easy-peesy. tc2000 I keep forgetting that the "soil" in WA is more sandy compared to the horrible CLAY that we get here in VIC (rock hard on hot days and slush on rainy days ---yeeewwwww). Landscaping will be such a breeze for you since I see that your land is relatively level (unlike my silly sloping-in-all-directions-land!!!! ) Hahahaha! I love how you've put it in inverted commas Yeah soil is very pis-poor here, as Fu will attest, and our estate has been built up on construction sand + the normal fine rocky barren excuse for soil here in WA. On the bright side, drainage! Clay soils would be such a pain, I'll keep you in my mind when I feel like having a sooky princess at all the hard work I'll be putting into the landscaping! tc2000 LOVE your floor plan AND you have HUGE bedrooms!!!!!!! AND I love the "His and Hers" walk thru robe!!! My WIR is kind of on the teeny weeny side and I've told my hubby that he may have to use our linen cupboard to put his shirts and shorts!!!! Ahh nooo! Poor hubby But your cabinets look AMAZING! I'm inspired to get similar ones to make the most of the WIR space. Glad you like the floor plan, it's a bit unconventional but we think we can do wonderful things with it tc2000 Oooo..lucky you having the alfresco as part of the slab! I stupidly thought my alfresco was part of the slab until after I got slabbed and realised that we didn't have a "ready-made" floor to the alfresco .... Naw we don't have the slab under the alfresco - they'll be paving it Further down the track I would love to get a timber deck extending straight out from the door all the way to a pretty limestone water wall on the fence-line though, it would really help to make the backyard a feature area. For now though, pavers! tc2000 I'm going to be a party pooper and say that I don't like Colorbond roofing Have you heard how noisy it gets when it rains? My current rental house has colorbond roofing and I still jump off my sofa when it starts raining cos' of the tinny noise. I've always lived in tiled houses, but when I was a kid the neighbour's roof was tin, so I used to listen to the rain falling on that... loved it It would probably be a different case if it were my own roof though, you're right I probably just have a case of the 'grass is greener' disease Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 119Feb 03, 2010 10:47 pm jodge Hey Vundaful. . . Phil and Phil LURVE your colorbond roofing! Jodge you crazy chook, we have tiles What's with the "Phil and Phil" reference? Gosh you give me the giggles Re: Vundaful's House - Roof DONE! Float STARTED! Oranges...WHAT? 120Feb 03, 2010 11:29 pm OMG, You're hilarious and your enthusiasm is infectious! Oh, ok, your alfresco is not part of the slab - I'm abit of a doh doh head - but at least they're paving it for you! Gawd, the clay...the clay....the clay.... it's touted to rain tomorrow arvo at some point and I'm tempted just to go to my site when it's wet and soggy with me little wellies and a leveller stick thingamajig to level out the sideage of the house (bobcat man didn't do this bit of the house altho he did the rear of garage blind side).
