Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 06, 2010 3:29 pm Hi, We recieved a letter today from our builder with our planning approval all approved and granted - yipeeeeeee. But the date on the approval letter to the builder from the council was 23rd November 2009. The date on the letter from the builder to let us know that planning has been approved is 4th January 2010. Did anyone else have such a delay? The builder told us they would start in December but kept telling us they were waiting for approval - is this a sign of things to come???? Thanks Sarah Re: How long after council approval did the builder let you know 2Jan 06, 2010 3:42 pm Thats a bit odd... I'd give your builder a call (or email, whichever is easier) and just query the length of time it took them to advise you of the approval. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: How long after council approval did the builder let you know 3Jan 06, 2010 3:57 pm As soon as he recieved the approval he called us, one of the advantages of a small builder I guess. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: How long after council approval did the builder let you know 4Jan 06, 2010 3:59 pm I think sometimes there can be a bit of slackness from the workers. Documents can be given to the wrong person, or given to the right one, and then put aside because of "busyness" and then they see it again and go oh yeh that, better get on to that - then eventually you get notified. Also, the council may have written up that document, and moved on to the next one, forgotten to send it out that day. A few days later it gets to the builder. I don't know if you can get compensated in any way if they said they would start in December then didn't. It would just chew into the days they have left to build your house. So unless there are more delays, you should still get your house built in the correct timeframe. My council has online application status, so I was checking all the time and knew it had been approved, but it had been then put on another desk before they fully approve it and send it out, or in this case, email it back to the builder. I work for my builder, so I know when things like that come in pretty quickly after it has occured. In your case, as you see a month old date on the council wokpapers, I would at least complain a lil and query why it took a month for you to be notified. It showed up the day they received the papers. Got to love transparency. Stefan Building the M3tr!con Liberty 42 at Stonecutters Ridge. The New Build Blog - "Life, In Progress." Not in a rush, as our bank is taking their time, so building can't start until everything is set to go there. I'll let you know when the builders advise us of approval . It does seem like an awfully long time for you though!! Regards, Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project???
