Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 05, 2010 10:46 am Hi all, What flooring do you have in your hallway between the kids bedrooms and the bathroom? Had initially thought to have carpet so then it flows throughout the bedrooms. But are now thinking of continuing the laminate flooring from family area through to the hallway. Only problem is that there will be a mixture of laminate, tiling and carpet seen in the one area (hallway area). Not sure if this will look too busy. But think that laminate flooring is more practical so that when going to the toilet people don't walk dirt onto carpet. Not sure now. Could you please show pictures of your flooring in the hallway and tell whether you find it practical and easy to clean. Thanks! Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 2Jan 05, 2010 10:52 am Tiles, reason being it's a high traffic area. Bedrooms will be carpeted.
* It's the same floor tile that will be in the family, kitchen & dining rooms, aswell as the bathroom. So it flows straight through. Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 3Jan 05, 2010 10:53 am we have cork because it is the flooring in the main living areas of the house. we have cork everywhere except wet areas ( tiles), bedrooms and the lounge room ( carpet). In our last house I would have answered slate for the same reason. I see no reason to add an additional flooring material in a house just for a passageway. BUT having something that can take damp footprints outside bathrooms is nice so if the rest of the house was carpeted I guess I've be tempted to continue the tiling used in wet areas. We used the same tiling for the main bathroom, loo and laundry as these are in the same area and opened up into the same passageway. If all the areas off this had been carpeted we would have used the wet area tiles for flooring in here as well. Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 4Jan 05, 2010 10:56 am Ive said "wood and i like it" but we havent got it yet We decided floorboards as the hallway is a continuation from our living areas, I would have chosen carpet however, if it wasnt for the fact that the toilet was kind of attached to the hallway in a way which made dividing the carpet and timber between it weird - does that make sense? Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 5Jan 05, 2010 11:01 am I have tiles in all rooms in my house except for the bedrooms which are carpeted. I prefer tiles outside of the wet areas!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 6Jan 05, 2010 11:03 am We originally had the hallway carpeted in our old house and it was a really BAD idea. For one thing, it's a high traffic area, so the carpet wore really badly, and for another, little kids not quite making it to the loo, or running out of the bathroom whilst dripping wet, isn't good for carpet. When we renovated, we extended the living area flooring (tiles) up the hallway and I was much happier. In this house, we have laminate flooring in the hallway, which flows on from the main living area. It meets with carpet in the kids' rooms and tiles in the bathroom/toilet, but so what? The only advantage to carpet in this situation is that it's quiet. Meh. Just take your shoes off. Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 7Jan 05, 2010 1:09 pm I don't really have a hallway upstairs as such, but all of it is carpeted except for the kids bathroom, toilet and our ensuite which are tiles. The area just outside the bathroom to the toilet door is also shared with my Daughters bedroom door and forms part of the upstairs landing . It's carpet. So far, no accidents on it, and the kids are always dry and dressed before stepping on to it. It would look silly to have that 'bit' anything else but carpet due to the floorplan. Downstairs the hallway is floorboards with carpet in the rooms off it (lounge, dining and study). There is a little alcove to get to the powder room and the laundry which is the continuation of the floorboards. It would have looked odd to have the tiles there even though they are used in the laundry and powder, so I opted for the continuation of the wood, and a much more streamlined look. Had I had carpet in the hallway I probably would have gone for tiles in the alcove, but I didn't really want 3 different floor coverings so close together that couldn't be behind closed doors (the powder and laundry)...if that makes sense!! Actually the halls are tiled in the rental we are in at the moment and it does work a lot better...hey I have finally found a postitive in this stupid rental house only taken 12months. But I don't like it. I like laminate flooring. It is rany here and my kids like opening the windows neighboring to the hallyway. And laminate flooring is not water resistant, so I don't know which type of flooring to choose. Maybe PVC flooring will be ok.

Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I think it looks fine. The timber laminate in this pic is continued on from the family room, the bedrooms are carpeted, and the wet areas are tiled. I don't think there is a problem with it at all!! Having said that, this pic is from the display home of our eventual house, so I haven't lived in it - but we will be doing the flooring the same way! Re: What flooring do you have in your hallway between bedrooms? 11Jan 24, 2010 2:51 pm I will have timber flooring, same as the living areas, in the hallway leading to the bedrooms. One of the reason for this is if the carpet on one of the bedrooms has an accident that requires it's replacement, only the one bedroom would need re-carpeting.
