Re: Building with Simonds 5Dec 31, 2009 11:27 am Hi cream We didn’t build with Simonds, but we are living (renting) in a Simonds built house in Truganina and all I can say is, when we were looking at display homes to pick our house, we didn’t even look at Simonds because of the experiences we have had living in this house. We are the first tenants in the house which was built late 2008 and we have had nothing but problems, problems that as tenants we should not have had to deal with. I’m not going to list them all because there is way too much, but here are a few: 1. Front door only has a deadlock and doesn’t have any other latch so you always have to have to door deadlocked or it blows open, then the deadlock broke and wouldn’t lock our unlock from the outside and had to go through the garage to get out of the house (we use the garage as an extra room not for the cars and at the time had boxes everywhere). GF works night and gets home at 4am or 6am and had to get out of bed to let her in for weeks. 2. Window locks (almost all of them) either fell out or stopped working 3. One of the bedrooms flooded – pipes not connected properly from day 1 4. Doors fell off (screws just fell out of the holes) 5. Almost all the doors didn’t latch, some have been fixed (more than once) and others just can’t be fixed 6. The door from the garage to the back yard was jammed shut because the door was too big for the opening 7. Stove not connected up properly so the automatic igniters didn’t work (someone forgot to plug it in) There is more but I just can’t think of them at the min, almost all of these are teething problems but they just didn’t do anything to try and fix the problems and just kept putting us off, apparently our realestate and landlord kept ringing them too. I don’t know if it’s because they knew we were renting or if they normally are that slack, but their customer service is shi#. Despite these things though, just the build quality alone is enough for me to not want to build with them, and I know of a number of people who have built with Simonds that have had big problems. Our first experience had both positives and negatives. For our new house Simonds were not our first choice but after our number 1 choice would not build on a demolished house site we ended up back at Simmonds since they had a floorplan that met our families needs and that would fit on our odd shaped block, we like the look and feel of the house and the overall price came within our planned budget. I have read the comments of the many people in here but since we have built with them before I was comfortable going with them again. We also live extremely close ( within view) of where our new house will be built and I will be checking progress and reporting any problems every day. On top of this we will also use an independant inspector as the cost of inspection is low compared to the overall spend. Best wishes for your build.
