Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 28, 2009 3:12 am Has anyone built with highbury homes - perth. We have just bought a block. I considered owner building but after careful consideration - and lots of reading through this site I am edging towards using a builder. I was most impressed by the presentation of the show home by highbury homes, they appear to build to a high standard and offer a very flexible approach. Any comments would be appreciated. Cheers. Re: highbury homes perth 2Mar 14, 2010 7:53 pm Toby, See my previous review of Highbury Homes - not a good experience. I do not recommend them. As to the type of people they are (other than telling me to f off literally) - they recently tried to get my reviews pulled from a review site by saying I was ****** (have all the letters, emails and digital photos to prove my review) the reviews are still there. When that did not work, they put up a review mentioning my neighbours-only Highbury Homes would know who built my neighbours houses. Note that I built in 2006/2007 when the boom was on and they were way over extended. They may have improved but I am not sure, and I doubt it very much based on some of the other threads. Perth is a small palce - one of my tenants is building a new house and guess what, they are building with Highbury Homes - did not ask me prior to signing the contract. We will see how they go. After reading your reply I am happy now that I changed my mind. Much appreciated, it is such a big decision and it is helpful to hear other peoples points of view. Cheers. Re: highbury homes perth 4Mar 14, 2010 10:36 pm It's a shame that they have, alleged, quality control issues because their display homes are top notch, even if they are a little over-priced. On the flip-side, my plasterer mate worked for them for a few years, a few years back. He gave me no negative feedback on the builder. Re: highbury homes perth 5Apr 13, 2010 3:56 pm Lands1 No alledged quality issues with Highbury, they all exist and cost me to repair. If you look closely at their display homes the workmanship is not great - for example bathroom tiling, cornices etc. I have met eight or nine people who have built with Highbury and only one said it was a good experience. Most complained of poor workmanship, particularily ceilings, and plastering, but also painting. The other complait was Highbury refusing to fix deficient work. Best regards Neil Re: highbury homes perth 6Sep 01, 2015 3:03 pm Like most companies they are good when they are small ie back in 2007 (I built an investment house and it was good) and bad when they get bigger. forget where they come from. We built our own house in 2010 with them and for 3 years the box gutter leaked and then last year the front gutter fell off. Definitely issues with controlling the quality of their sub contractors. Re: highbury homes perth 7Jun 06, 2021 4:10 pm In early 2019, my wife and started the process to build a new home on a property we owned in Mount Hawthorn. We started the process with the builder we used in 2010 and part way through that process we thought some of the costing were starting to blow out and seemed to be higher than what we expected. Part way through that process we looked at a Highbury Homes Display north of the river. That as it turned out, was one of our best moves and we eventually built with Highbury Homes. DESIGN - Right from the start, the Designer (Dave C) came up with designs that we felt were far superior to that of our previous builder. We never showed Highbury the other builders plans and were able to see how good the design was by comparing. Nothing was too much trouble for the Highbury Designer and he came up with great ideas and what we really liked was him challenging us (in a constructive way) when he thought our design changes would not compliment the over all design. The end product was a great design that was eventually transposed into our new home. Comment: Fully recommend the Highbury Design Team to anyone thinking of designing and building a new home. THE PROCESS – Once we had agreed on the design and signed a contract we were handed over to client liaison who worked with us to fine tune our design into an addenda that reflected the materials, products and finish we required. Our Client Liaison was Lauren R and we are so glad we had Lauren as nothing was too much trouble and she was able to grab our request and changes before converting them the build. Lauren was amazing and her technical knowledge, assistance and help made our building process as smooth as it could be. Other contacts that we had with other sections of Highbury was always professional and any queries or requests were dealt with as a priority. Comment: Great experience due to professional very Team. THE BUILD – Once we had all the design, administrative and prestart out of the way, the build started and we were assigned Peter M as our Building Supervisor. Peter has extensive experience in the building industry and was “One the Ball” when it came to overseeing our build. He was always checking to make sure workmanship was up to standard. Peter was excellent in keeping us advised of what was to happen next and was always responsive to any of our queries or if clarification was required. The trades were all quality, considered other trades to follow, were tidy, and communicated with us when required. Most had been with Highbury for a number of years and also spoke highly of the company. The end result was that Highbury Homes through the Supervisor and Client Liaison built a quality home for us. SUMMARY: Our criteria right from the start was - value for money, a seamless process and a quality home. During the design and prestart we felt that variations were always well priced, value and any credits were fair. Our criteria was met and we commend Highbury Homes to anyone who may be considering a new home. We are also happy share our experience with anyone, including looking at our new home, please contact pkcribb@gmail.com if you would like to take up this offer. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 47434 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
