Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 23, 2009 5:15 pm We have spent almost $70k so far and still going (but that does include a $30k fully enclosed sunroom). Just wondering how much everyone else has or will spend to finish off their house? This includes things such as driveway, fences, landscaping, air con, window coverings etc. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: How much did you spend after your build? 3Dec 23, 2009 7:12 pm Well since one part of the driveway was $20k, the second part of the drive is another $10k and the pool is so far $50k it is fairly scary to say the least. Add to that $20k for flooring and $8k for window furnishings. Don't even want to consider the landscaping expenses............ Some things are worth waiting for. Re: How much did you spend after your build? 4Dec 23, 2009 8:26 pm I'm guesstimating, but I'd say under $40,000 (including the landscaping we've yet to pay for). Actually, not bad. Of course, we haven't really started on furniture yet.... Re: How much did you spend after your build? 5Dec 23, 2009 10:18 pm Kyton - Yes, a pool will certainly eat into the finances but so lovely to have. Kek - That's actually pretty good. I didn't even include any furniture in my guestimate Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: How much did you spend after your build? 6Dec 24, 2009 8:11 am Yet to build but after it we'll have about $20-25k and leaving quite a few things to do as time goes on. Getting necessities first then work towards the others. Our hobby will be a long term one of turning the house into our very own 'home'. Just glad to have a roof over our head Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: How much did you spend after your build? 7Dec 24, 2009 9:01 am We have concrete fencing, some pool fencing to the rear, turf (minimal amount lol) and landscaping to be done afterwards. Our concrete fencing is about 13k and the neighbours should pay half so we are allowing 7k just to be sure. Maybe 1k for turf and top soil, and then not sure for landscaping. It will be a work in progress because I want to do it right this time! What do other people allow for their landscaping? I suppose its going to depend on how big your garden beds are but I just wont know where to put gardens until the house is finished. Re: How much did you spend after your build? 8Dec 24, 2009 10:04 am It never ends!! Concrete (outdoor area and driveway), fence, soil and new couch, clothes line, tv antenna, letterbox etc so far is just over the $12k mark Still to do - Blinds, new table and chairs, new outdoor setting, pergola roof and plants and grass and vegie patch will be about another $12k or so roughly with the big items being the pergola roof and the blinds Then eventually new light fittings but they are very low down the list It's probably lots more than that when you consider all the other incidentals I keep buying like a shovel, garden fork etc - thing's I've never needed before 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: How much did you spend after your build? 9Dec 24, 2009 10:23 am prob around 45k so far. this includes carpets, paint, cork flooring, window furnishings, refrigerated air con some minor bits and pieces like additional towel rails ( am considering another) and some retaining walls. we have no paving and need another retaining wall ( $3600) and I would love a patio, there is no driveway yet, more fencing to go still and then of course more soil and plants..... and then eventually an outdoor spa ( the one we like is around 12k) It will be a gradual process. We are considering getting in some ceiling fans to supplement the air con but I also hope to complete the last retaining wall by the end of summer so we'll see. We will be living with the "chinamen hat" light fittings for a while. After that we'll look at some paving or further fencing. Driveway isn't an issue as we haven't decided what we want to do yet. we might just put in a gravel one or some tailings or just leave it as it is for a few years. We have allowed $1000 for turf, $3000 for artificial turf out the front, $1500 for plants and mulch and $550 for garden edging. We also have $1000 for a water tank and $1000 for a garden shed (DH will install both). Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I suppose its going to depend on how big your garden beds are but I just wont know where to put gardens until the house is finished. I really does vary a lot, depending on how much land you have, and what you do with it. We're not putting in any lawn at all, but paving, raised garden beds, feature wall, step stone paths and ground-level garden beds are costing us just over $18,000. No plants included in that. If you do it yourself, it would be less. I'm surprised to see internal painting included in some people's post-handover costs. In WA the only internal painting that is standard is ceilings, doors and door frames. normal wall painting is not included. When we built the first time we didn't get any internal painting done at all to save costs. This time we only had walls to do. Getting the walls done professionally was too much $ and we wanted to spend the $ in other areas.
