Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 22, 2009 4:30 pm I'm after some help if anybody can give me some guidance. I have been told that it will cost around $6,000 to connect the water mains for a new house on vacant land. It is a battleax block and is approximately 30 metres from the road. I'm told that the pipes have already been laid from the land to the road, as it was a subdivision. The plumber tells me that the pipes will need to be hooked up to the other side of the road, so the road will need to be bored under/dug up. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is $6,000 reasonable? Re: Cost to connect to watermains 2Dec 22, 2009 5:04 pm It probably varies state by state ( and which one are you in? ) In Perth: Any Govt utility with no competition can ask for a heap too much but this is not uncommon. The Water corp can supply ( for a fee ) an e-plan or a thispy plan which will show where the sewer and water come and go ( I suggest you check ). A builder will be resposible to take both of these the 30m to the rear block ( mine was $17000 site costs on level ground ) but for the privalidge to cut into the sewer for a rear green title block ( still had to pay a plumber $1500 to do the actual work ) the cost was $6500 ( sewer only ). This is paid by the owner of the original block. If a title has been issued for rear block then this will have already been payed by said owner ( clearance must have been issued by council and water authority to grant title ) . The two blocks may share the water in and out but only if theay are strata or survey strata ( if unsure approach a surveyor for guidance ) Anything going under a road will be costly no matter what is being done.. Sorry , I have probably given you more to think about. Confused now ?
