Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 21, 2009 1:16 am Hi All My name is Rosanne and I would just like to introduce myself to this great site. My partner Chris and I signed up a contract in August 09 to build The Pavillion by Celebration Homes. We had a few issues with our block due to its form but now that is all sorted we are just waiting on approval from the City of Wanneroo. Apparently our plans have been assigned to an approval officer which is great so hopefully all will be okd by Jan 2010 and then we can start getting into the exciting part - construction. This is such an exciting time of our lives and we would love to hear about other people's building journeys (especially with Celebration Homes)! Thanks Rosie Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 2Dec 21, 2009 9:59 am Hi Rosie, I am not going to be any help to you at all but thought I would pop my head in and say hi. I am also in Perth. We have just put a deposit on a block of land on Saturday and we have a preliminary meeting with Celebrations tommorrow. We are wanting to build the Oasis. The titles are not due to be issued on our block until March but apparently their prices are going up in next year (along with everything else) so we can 'lock in' our standard building price at the preliminary meeting. It is all very exciting but we are about to put our house on the market so it is all a little stressful for us at the moment too. Good luck and I hope you get council approval very soon. Congratulations on your block, where are you building? The whole process is so exciting but I can imagine it must be quite stressful with the selling of your current house too! Will all be worth it in the end! Good Luck with your meeting with Celebration Homes - they have honestly been great for us and I have heard from so many people that they are great builders! Rosie Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 4Dec 21, 2009 8:14 pm HI Rosie, we have just about finished building with celebration homes. we have built the mayfair! So far they have been pretty good...not too many dramas. We are just waiting for our financial institution to pay them the last $$ then we can get our keys their workmanship has been good too. The only thing i wasnt too happy about was that they were very strict with NO variations after pre-start! But i guess thats how they can maintain a good timeline . They have taken about 20 weeks to build our house..which is a good timeline . Brand new estate just past Brighton. I have also heard great things about Celebrations. I had a friend build a house through them 5yrs ago and is just about to start building another house with them so I thought that was a good sign. Tinfish- Our Sales consultant Ryan said that their construction time frame at the moment is 20-24weeks so glad to see that your build has fitten in that time fram. Our site was scraped today but expecting the slab to go down early 2010 so we are at the beginning stages. The biggest issue for us is the waiting, especially with the City of Wanneroo which was 9 weeks for approval. In the end it took lots of nagging and a lovely lady at the council to get it approved. All the best and will look forward to watching your progress. I still cant believe I stumbled across this site, what a great way to share our progress with others in simalar stages! MNH that is fantastic about your block in the new Alkimos estate up north! It will definitely be worth the wait for the titles. Our block is in Clarkson - we didnt have to wait for titles but the block we bought was actually a car park for the Somerly Land Sales office so there was alot of work involved getting the tarmac ripped up and replaced with sand. This chewed into our time as we had to get that done before we sent it to Council! All is good now we love the location and the block so worth every bit of it! Tinfish that is so excellent that you are almost at Handover stage! You must be so excited and wow what a great building timeframe! I know what you mean about Celebrations and their strict rules on Variations after pre start. We actually had an issue at prestart where they tried to tell us it would cost an extra $400 to have a tile roof over colourbond. We werent aware of this price change and our consultant didnt inform us of this at the initial contract signing so thankfully they let it go for us. Hare1 looks like you are at a similar stage to us although our plans have been with council 7 weeks today, we know our approval officers name and we have been trying to contact him so we can get more info on what is happening with our plans - but he is always on the phone and never returns our calls so I guess we will have to wait and see! Obviously with Christmas and New Year there will be an even longer wait but I still think early Jan all will be approved. I actually work for a supplier of Celebration Homes and received their Christmas Closure information the other day which said they are closed from just before Christmas and are returning to work on the 4th of Jan 2010 - this is actually really good for a builder - previous years they have been closed a week before Christmas and only reopen mid Jan - they must be busy! Well everyone stay in touch - I would love to see all of your progress Look forward to lots of exciting posts over the next few months! Rosie Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 8Dec 22, 2009 9:44 am Rosie that is so funny about you buying the carpark of the sales office. When it was up for sale we drove past it going to the shops and I actually thought to myself what a good location it is!!! I will be driving past there this morning actually as I am popping out to the shops so will have a peek We currently live in Merriwa so Alkimos is only 5mins from here. Right in between the 2 places we spend most of our time. Yanchep and Brighton!! It is amazing how far north Perth is spreading now. I remember when Mindarie was built and it was in the middle of nowhere!! I am surprised Rosie that they told you it would be an extra $400 for tiles. I actually thought you had a choice between colourbond or tiles. Both are standard so there is no extra cost for one or the other. I actually looked into that because a few builders we visited were charging an extra $1000 for colourbond. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Yes the $400 extra was because we apparently didnt specify at the original meeting that we wanted Tiles over Colourbond - but we were never asked and we just assumed we chose between the two at prestart. Apparently the $400 was to cover changing the plans - but we never chose Colourbond in the first place so that was our arguement, I guess it was our misunderstanding but at the same time it was never mentioned to us at the prelimnary contract meeting so when we took our choices file home we just assumed we would pick tiles along with all the other things we had to choose and inform them at prestart. You definitely have a choice but make sure you tell them prior to prestart. Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 10Dec 22, 2009 10:04 pm Our sales guy had already picked colorbond for us too....Luckily we wanted it but think it's a bit suss.... With the pavillion the bristile tiles are included aren't they? I think they end up costing a little more than the colorbond which is maybe why this happens! Idon't think there is much difference in cost. Our builder allows a choice of both for some houses but for teh one we were building we had to pay more for colorbond. It might be a matter of what deals your builder has with the supply company at the time. PLus whatever they can get away with charging you for they will. Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 12Dec 23, 2009 7:44 pm We are building with celebration homes aswell, and they tried to charge us $400 to go with tiles over the colorbond roofing aswell. I argued the point at pre start and she went to see her 'manager', she came back saying they wont charge us the $400 because we signed up before a certain date. I don't know what the $400 is for though. Maybe colorbond roofing sales are down And yeah, the plans come standard with colorbond roofing, even though we said numerous times to our sales guy that we were going with tiles. Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 13Dec 23, 2009 10:59 pm Isnt it crazy how it all works - Jw023 that is exactly what happened with us - we argued the point at prestart and they went and discussed it and then came back saying 'ok we will waiver as it only changed in July' or something along those lines. Anyways I think you just have have to be firm with them about what you want. Thats why this forum is great for information and feedback! Keep it coming guys! Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 14Dec 23, 2009 11:14 pm We had a meeting yesterday at the Celebrations office and had a lovely walk through the pre start room. Oooohhhh!!! I must say I am really impressed with so many things that come as standard with Celebrations that other builders charge extra for. When we met with our sales consultant yesterday he told us the one thing we had to lock in was our type of roof. He actually repeated that a couple of times so maybe they have been made aware that some sales consultants are not letting people know that the type of roof has to be locked in at that stage?? Our sales consultant is coming over Sunday to show us the plans with changes we have made and we will pay the $1500 fee for the soil testing. Then our house goes on the market just after christmas so please cross your fingers everyone that we sell ASAP Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. All sorted now how exciting for you!! and thats really really good that they were clear about the roof type too! Cant wait to see your progress! Keep the updates coming! And a big good luck from us for the selling of your house!! Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 16Dec 23, 2009 11:36 pm And yes the Celebration Homes Pre-Start display room is fantastic! Apparently that only got renovated last year a friend of mine who has just finished building missed out on that great display! Its so exciting! Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 17Dec 23, 2009 11:47 pm Thanks Rosie. Will certainly keep you updated with what happens. I have never been into a prestart room so am not sure what other builders are like but I think I am going to be very excited when I go in there next to actually choose everything!! My Husband was quite happy because most of the things that come as standard I love and in most cases it is the standard style I prefer so I think they budget may look healthier then we thought Drove past your block again today....not a stalker LOL just spent wayyyyy to much time at Ocean Keys for xmas. It looks lovely and I really don't think you could get a better postition then you have. Must be very exciting for you! Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Just cant wait to see something happening on it haha I will continue to be patient!! You will have the best time at your pre start meeting! It is very exciting and you are right the standard stuff is good quality which is great! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas & New Year! Rosie Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 19Jan 29, 2010 1:38 pm Hi Rosie and everyone... Just though I would get in contact and say hi, My name is Debs and myself and my partner are also building the Pavillion with Celebration homes in Clarkson. I am new to the site and was just scanning through to see rough time scales for the build and any issues people are having! Our slab was laid on 18th Jan, and our bricks are being delivered to the site on 1st Feb. It would be great to compare notes on the build progress! Hope to speak to you soon Thanks Re: The Pavillion - Celebration Homes 20Jan 29, 2010 6:52 pm Interesting that a few of you got charged to change to tiles. The house I bought came standard with colourbond but i told the sales guy from day one that i wanted tiles and got a $2800 credit. Maybe this was because I said i wanted it from the start... There are quite a few Celebrations homes going up around me and most people seem to very pleased with their work..So hopefully it all goes smoothly for you as well.
