Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 19, 2009 8:46 am Hello everyone, we are currently building a small house (20 sq) with a small builder in Mernda, VIC. Everything is going well except : 1 the wood they using for frame have a lot scars and looks not good if compare with other builders material, the builder's answer is it was inspected and approved by Banyule council would not affect the structure. 2 the width of our house is 11.95m, but dont have batterns in the roof (ceiling), the builder's answer is Batterns are only used over here where the trusses are for stud centers that are over 600mm wide. so they do not use batterns as not required. We are vey unfamiliar with this industry and need suggestions from you about this, many thanks! Re: Batterns need? Your suggestions please. 2Dec 19, 2009 8:58 am I don't really have an answer, but Mernda isn't in the Banyule council area, it's in the City of Whittlesea 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' It can therefore be fixed directly to the bottom cord of the truss. You will find if you have a tile roof the trusses will be at 600mm so they dont have to use batterns. Timber is a natural product and can varie from pack to pack. Some is nice and clear with few scars some have heaps. It should be marked with F7 or MPG10 or 12. All goes well for you and your build.
