Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building with Ashford? 2Jun 30, 2009 10:53 pm We had handover three months ago but the house was incomplete, and even though we expressed our reluctance to make the final payment, the Site Supervisor was persistent in convincing us to give him the cheque, promising to complete the house within a week, but todate no action/progress has been made. The items not completed include: 1. Toilets are not working (bathroom & Master bedroom) – these toilets have never worked since installation. 2. The roof (ceiling) in the garage is leaking due to lack of waterproofing on the front balcony. This is an issue that has been ongoing since fixing stage. This is causing delays in tiling the balcony and subsequently completing the house. 3. Entry door furniture not installed as per contract. These include: Horizon pull handle to external side of the door, Amelia lever handle to internal side of the door, and Mortice lock (total upgrade cost $ 466). We raised the issue at pre-handover, at handover and several times with the SS and he promised to organize for Hardings to deliver the lock and the carpenter to install it, but Hardings delivered another temporary lock. When we contacted SS again, he stated he is in possession of our lock and handle bar, and promised to have them installed, but three months later we are still waiting. 4. Heat & Glo gas log fire: the space allowed for the gas log fire is too small and is not built according to manufacturer’s specification that we provided to the builder. The supplier was sick of delays and ended up delivering the fire at our house and it is still in its original box sitting in our lounge room. 6. Other issues still outstanding including multiple holes in plaster, paint work, damaged windows (that have been outstanding is frame stage), payment for delay damages and works not performed. We are very angry at allowing ourselves to be manipulated into making payments before the house is properly completed. I think we have been very patient with this builder, we have spoken to SS multiple times, written emails to head office with no action, and we are now getting increasingly frustrated considering the building process has taken over 2 years. To the moderators: what is stated is documented facts and anyone disputing is welcomed to contact us or reply on the website. braveheart Re: Anyone building with Ashford? 4Jul 11, 2009 5:30 pm I would like to speak with anyone recently completed or currently under construction with Ashford Homes in Victoria. Although still haven't even cut into the ground yet so maybe I cant comment yet I almost built with them as well, and so glad I didn't!!! I paid my $2.5K deposit, then I got my contract to sign, but it had that many errors in it, they left things out, I couldn't work out their charges they couldn't even get the size of the land right. I gave them enough chances to fix things, but in the end decided to move on. They wouldn't give me my $2.5K back, even though they hadn't even got a soil test done, but I was too worried about finding somewhere to live as I had sold my house and didn't pursue it. But i'm much better off, decided to go with M3tricon, and the difference in professionalism and customer service is evident. Re: Anyone building with Ashford? 8Dec 11, 2009 3:31 pm I also thank my lucky stars that I didn't go Ashford. I lost the deposit too. Ashford took 6 long months to come up with my contract documents. They backflipped on the compensation clause (agreed verbally to change it to $250 pw only to backflip & revert to $150pw). The contract also had an extremely long number of days of completion (8-9 months from memory). I was almost "forced" to either sign it or risk losing the $26k (at that time Rudd gov hadn't announced whether extension of first home owners boost will be extended beyond 30 June 2009). When the grant was extended, I decided I did not want to put up with Ashford games - imagine getting a call that "the management of Ashford finally decides to update the pw compensation", and yeah you bet it, soon after the grant extension announcement!!!!! I subsequently went with S1monds. I didn't come to this forum till maybe Oct so I wasn't aware of the thread about S1monds homes problems. However all I can say is that after signing the contract with S in mid Sept (yes, S just took 3 months to do up my contract as I made some changes to the standard plan), my experience with S1 is still postive and I keep my SS on his toes with my own independent inspector. Site start was in mid Oct. Slab done by Nov and after 2.5 weeks of curing, frame & roof truss is now completed, roof tiles going up next week. Given Christmas is round the corner, I don't think I can get to lock-up stage but overall I am satisfied with the progress. Hopefully I can move in by March? Fingers crossed. I wouldn't imagine how long I would need to wait if I went along with Ashford. I am really thankful that I move on and cut my lost. Re: Anyone building with Ashford? 9Dec 17, 2009 9:06 pm Thank you for sharing your experiences with Ashford homes, we had our eye on one of their designs but now i think we will give them a miss. This isnt the only thread i have read with regard to Ashford. Good luck in getting all your issues sorted out Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you.
