Browse Forums Building A New House Re: So.....do building companies ever throw in 'extras'?? 21Dec 14, 2009 1:25 pm We were making our ensuite larger, both in width and depth, and has gotten a quote for increasing width for $958, the depth increase we were taking space from another room, so quote for that was $0. Went through about 4 variation re-writes (i actually re-wrote most of it for them cause they kept getting it wrong) where they continually forgot to add the width incerase in at all, but when they finally did add it in there, the whole thing was for $0 - they had forgotten to charge us for the width increase Needless to say, we haven't told them they gave us a freebie... Re: So.....do building companies ever throw in 'extras'?? 22Dec 14, 2009 2:04 pm Helyn Dollar I have looked at display homes and their 'upgrade' features it seems that these 'upgrades' are what should be included in a home anyway as standard inclusions....for example-overhead cupboards, tiling to living/kitchen and dining areas, remote garage door and so on!?!?!? Well, not neccesarily Dollar - there have been threads on this forum from posters who do NOT want overhead cupboards and not everyone wants tiling in kitchen/dining/living areas. No, not everyone wants tiles, or overhead cupboards and so on....but it seems that a particular company, like many others give you the option to pay for example: $2,000 for 'upgrades' that allows you to get '$30,000' worth of upgrades when in actual fact if you look closely at the things they call upgrades, they are what most homes should have as standed and you shouldn't be paying extra....like remote control garage....that should be standard. And if there is something included you don't want, obviously you should not be paying for it. Re: So.....do building companies ever throw in 'extras'?? 23Dec 14, 2009 2:15 pm My wife and I got the travel component of our build removed, which came to about $6,000. When we chose our builder, we were never informed about a cost to travel to our location, which is no further than some of the "suburbs" from the CBD. When i queried this with the salesman and threatened to pull the plug, within 30 seconds i got an offer to remove the cost for travel. It still shows up on our quote, but it was removed and the contract stage as a "salesman's discount". I'm pretty sure you could get some form of discount or "freebie" from any builder if you pushed hard enough. Re: So.....do building companies ever throw in 'extras'?? 24Dec 14, 2009 2:25 pm We got loads of extras in our build with NBG and our base price was really comparable to other major companies. From reading about other builds, we got fantastic extras for free which other companies charge for. ie: fully installed home theatre (promo of that month, which changes every month). They offer extras for free such as cupboards/bench in laundry, glass splashback, home alarm system, stone benchtops, 3 internal coats of paint, ducted vacuum system, tiled showers, mixer taps, water filter in kitchen, Blanco 900cm standalone oven, Blanco dishwasher, colorbond roof, wine rack, ixl tastic to bathrooms, hand held shower head, digital keyless entry to front door, melamine shelf fit-out to all wardrobes etc, etc. I even thought I'd have to pay for the door stop thinging that stops water coming in under the external doors, but that's also included. We were really happy with the extras & are not really sure how they can afford to give away such stuff for free as our base price was cheaper than other major building companies. <edited - we did have to pay for airconditioning, higher ceilings, termite protection, flyscreens...> Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11467 Not unless you have managed to put it as a special condition into the contract somehow. 1 6396 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 46015 |
