Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 04, 2009 8:46 am Have for some reason found it quite hard to get a quote to slash our block of land, no-one likes to return my calls this week! Anyway, one guy returned my call and quoted $250-$300 to slash our block of land - 730sq, fairly flat, knee high-waist high grass and weeds, the odd bit of rubbish (but I forgot to tell him that!) Is that a reasonable quote? I"m in Langwarrin, SE Vic. Gees I wish there were just standard prices for trades that didn't vary so wildly! Cheers Caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... We have vacant land in Lysterfield and it has recently been slashed by someone, without my knowledge. I can only assume it was the council and no doubt I'll be getiing a bill in the mail shortly! Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 3Dec 04, 2009 1:30 pm Seems expensive, but ive never paid to have my yard mowed. That is if your talking about a standard house block 700m2. Surely you could whip around it in a few hours with a whipper snipper, id come and whipper snip it for $200 if i was close enough Tried Jims mowing for a price comparison maybe? Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 5Dec 04, 2009 3:24 pm We are building in the yarra valley and we got a quote to slash our block which is 800sqm for $200. We ended up just using our whippa snippa. You can also hire small slashers (you sit on them similar to a ride on mower) from kennards etc for around $90 for 4hrs or $100 for 1 day. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 6Dec 04, 2009 4:02 pm You could poison it. Large spray bottle (the type you carry on your back) from bunnings and some round up or similar. Then watch that stuff shrivvel up in the summer heat. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 7Dec 04, 2009 5:52 pm Jodie80 I'm guessing you don't need to worry about this slashing now caz I wish - the cut and fill covers about half the block, there is still a good portion of back yard covered in the weeds and grass. Its really hard stuff, almost like wood instead of grass, and we tried a whipper snipper but it barely made a dint. Wish I knew someone with a heavy duty whipper snipper instead...oh well, has to happen, they're coming back tomorrow morning to do the other half the block (so I figure I can just pay half, we'll see how that goes down!) Maybe you could give the grey army a call and see if they can do it. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 9Dec 04, 2009 7:11 pm Sounds ok. We got quoted I think $250 by Jim's mowing service. Block is 733sqm. We ended up doing it ourselves but it took 3 hours!!! DP said he earned every bit of $250 for the job, if he would've been paid. The grass was about knee high and I collected all the odds/ends of rubbish that was scattered on the block - including small concrete bits obviously from the build next door. It was really hard work. We were both stuffed.....he more than me, I was more (cough) supervising. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 10Dec 04, 2009 7:32 pm We had our lot slashed recently (council bushfire regulations require it to be done) and it cost $165. That's for 757 sqm. It is adelaide though so probably not much use for you. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 11Dec 16, 2009 5:55 pm my block is about 680sq and i only paid $60 and im outa metro adelaide. i have a flat block and my grass was pretty high, that was there flat rate. building heysen4e through SarahHomes at Milang IM THE PROUD OWNER OF DIRT house into council 22/08 Unconditionally approved 25/09 mortgage docs signed 29/09 land settled 09/10 land titled 22/10 start date about two weeks away!!! http://www.mymilangbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 12Dec 16, 2009 6:04 pm singlemum2daughters my block is about 680sq and i only paid $60 and im outa metro adelaide. i have a flat block and my grass was pretty high, that was there flat rate. WOW that is cheap! I didn't end up getting any slashed at all - the excavator was nice enough to spread the fill over most the block for me which covered most the grass, then I made hubby get out there with a whipper snipper for the edges - took him ages but it got done! Ride on Lawnmower for 1090m2, $150 and I had to pay for petrol. It took about 3 hours, I still think $50 and hour is way too high for a bloke to sit on a lawnmower. I suggest you spray it with weed killer, thats what I ended up doing to keep the weeds in check after the moving. I am lucky as my dad has a backpack sprayer which I highly recommend. The block was flat 700m and the grass wasn't very high, but the builder wanted it cut before site start. We cleared the rubbish off it ourselves, before the mow. Re: Is this an ok quote for slashing my block of land? 17Dec 19, 2009 9:58 pm try a guy called classy grassy he does my block in berwick and does a great job. munns parks and gardens used to do it but they are too busy now they do all the council stuff hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20909 I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14314 |
