Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building first home with Burbank 41Jan 17, 2010 1:34 pm I am soooo jealous! My land has been ready since I signed the contract in September and I’m still waiting! Got what was supposed to be final plans just before Christmas but still not accurate and the longer I have them the more changes I want to make. As for colour selection get a list from Boral with addresses and brick colours so you can choose before hand or at least see the bricks on a large scale. Also ask the edge for an electrical plan so you work on that before hand. We added a lot of 2 and 3 way light switches, down lights and heaps of double power points! We visited lots of their display homes so we could see the colour selections on a large scale, only problem with this was our selections were no longer in cat 1! We ended up spending 17K a big chunk was on the brick in fills and upgrade to cat 8 bricks and about 3K of that was electrical. GOOD LUCK! Re: Building first home with Burbank 42Jan 17, 2010 1:52 pm Sorry forgot to mention… Take a camera and photograph your selections. A friend of mine building with another company got the wrong colour bench top installed because the employee put in the wrong colour code her saving grace was the photos she took on the day. Also check your fridge space is big enough for the fridge you want and check your laundry door, my external sliding door was originally opening from the side next to the through not leaving me any room to fit out the door! Re: Building first home with Burbank 43Jan 17, 2010 8:12 pm i got an electrical plan emailed to me from my admin girl. i just picked where i wasnted all that stuff before we went but it still took us quite a while with electrical my tip would be if there is one thing you really want in your house, in our case we wanted blue rendering and build the rest of the house around it thasts just how we did it http://bekndarrenshouse.blogspot.com/ Re: Building first home with Burbank 44Jan 18, 2010 7:16 pm ladybird i got an electrical plan emailed to me from my admin girl. i just picked where i wasnted all that stuff before we went but it still took us quite a while with electrical my tip would be if there is one thing you really want in your house, in our case we wanted blue rendering and build the rest of the house around it thasts just how we did it Just to add to what everyone else has been saying we didn't realise that so many things were at extra cost so if you have a budget stick to it as even the smallest things do add up. We ended up upgrading on things we didn't plan on not because we felt pressured but because we wanted to add a point of difference with some things and make it more our own too. We ended up wanting stacked stone at the front of our house and that cost nearly$2,000 just for a small pillar. It was an overwhelming task but highly enjoyable and exciting. Re: Building first home with Burbank 45Jan 20, 2010 9:20 pm Yes, taking photos would be a good idea. I took lots of photos of the display house so that I could visualise where tiles etc. would go, especially if you are having a feature tile in the bathroom. I had an electrical plan of the house photocopies to an A3 size and added all my extra points and lights and highlighted them, so that on the day the electrical would be very clear. The tiles I must admit were very ordinary. They say that it is better for them not to stock in fashion colours or designs as they go out of fashion so quickly, so their range is farily basic, and neutral!! That was abit of disappointment for me! But I had Ken and he was very helpful. Would recommend him. Take lots of photos and ideas with you to let them see your style and the type of colours that would suit you. Yes, go visiting displays and I even photographed colours and bricks from displays and bought them with me (large A4 colour prints). I spent about what I had budgeted for, but went back another time and changed a couple of things... My only thing that I have changed and am not entirely happy with but gone with it for the sake of saving $640 is back to the normal roller door as the colour is dark, and I did not think the panel design would be as visible in a darker colour... so hope this looks ok. Good luck. I'm waiting on a couple of holes! (soil test) So what was the delay Nelle? Land settlement? Or Burbank paperwork stuff? The land was already titled when I bought it so the waiting is all down to paper work. I think they are just sooo busy with all the first home builders getting in for the bigger grants there just seems to be a huge back log. There was an issue with the set back which ate a up a bit of time. And I did make a few changes to the plans, each time I got them back and there were errors I thought well if they have to go back to drafting I may as well add that power point or that light switch. I signed the final plans this week more then 4 months after signing the contract wow that is a long time! In my opinion the plans lacked attention to detail there were errors on the electriacl and floor plans and differences between the elevations and the floor plans... I made sure every thing matched up before I signed I think they think I'm pretty painful! A side from the waiting I have no complaints the Admin staff at Burbank have been fantastic! I don’t believe any of it has been intentional I think they are just so busy I’ve slipped through. Here's hoping it wont be too long for all of us!!! Re: Building first home with Burbank 52Jan 29, 2010 4:28 pm We should here from developers next week, then just final contract and building permit. Our land was already titled when we bought it too. http://burbankascent2500.blogspot.com/ https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28503 [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/] HOUSE COMPLETED IN 119 DAYS PCI Complete Handover 24th August Re: Building first home with Burbank 53Jan 29, 2010 5:46 pm I'm up to the fixout stage of my build. The contract stuff took me ages too(got in before Sept 31st) However, the build has been quick. So quick it has caught me out on move management. And only the smallest of issues so far(some windows that weren't translucent but should have been). The construction has been neat and quick, no broken tiles or bricks everything lines up perfectly. The build so far has been a joy. I never thought I would be able to enjoy any part of this. Whoever is organising the contractors is a wizard. I was also happy with Ken at colour selection. He had good instincts for what was too dark and what would blend well. Just as well because I'm useless with colours. From all I've heard slow paperwork and a quick build is the way of it with Burbank. So stick it out guys, better times ahead. Gravity. Its the law. I think like everyone else that the first home owners are holding up the production line.... But so far everyone has been very pleasant to deal with. Hope the contract part doesn't take months!!!!!!
