Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 13, 2007 12:34 pm Hi,
We are planning to do a Stacked Stone feature on one of our external projections. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and any advice with regard to variability in quality, application of the product etc. We will probably buy the product from a wholesaler and then contract a tiler/stonemason to do it - does anyone know of someone in Brisbane who does this type of work. Also, our house is going to be Moroka Bag & Painted - should we leave the wall to be cladded unpainted?? - ie. would it affect adhesion if it were painted?? Comments appreciated. Building for the 1st time with M3tricon Site Start was 19th July 07. It's been 2 weeks to Handover for the past 8 weeks. Go figure. Re: Stacked Stone / Stone Cladding 2Jul 13, 2007 12:45 pm Hi Ricci,
Stackstsone can look great - but I've seen some bad applications - always where there is a corner. I haven't seen any display home that has managed to get the corners to match up stone for stone. From more than 1m away - you can't really tell - but up close it wasn't all that pretty. How big is the feature? We were quoted over $8k for a small wall about 3m long x 2.4m high Re: Stacked Stone / Stone Cladding 3Jul 13, 2007 1:24 pm Hi,
The feature is an external projection which has two awning windows. I have calculated the area as being 12sqm. There are 2 small returns either side, so good cornering would need to be done. I have a quote for supply only for $65/sqm for some really good stuff. No idea how much installation would cost. However our builder quoted $5500 to do the same wall. Re: Stacked Stone / Stone Cladding 4Jul 13, 2007 1:32 pm That's a great price on the stone! Maybe call around to a few installers - I can't imagine that it's too much different to tiling a bathroom wall. Re: Stacked Stone / Stone Cladding 5Aug 13, 2007 5:54 pm We'd like to do a stacked stone veneer feature wall, but in our family room. The room has a high cathedral timber ceiling, and the walls are normal plasterboard. Does anyone know if it would be a hard thing to do - would the plasterboard need to pulled out and replaced with something stronger for the stone to stick onto? There is also a woodheater next to the wall, so not sure how heat resistant the stone veneer would be?
