Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 27, 2009 2:26 pm Stupid question Can you hear the rain better on a colourbond roof? Or do they put some sound proofing stuff in the ceiling to stop it? I LOVE the sound and only thought of this when I just went out to our CB shed to put clothes in the dryer and the rain sounded lurvely Surely it wont sound as loud as it did out there, but I still hope it has a similar sound. Anyone had tiles AND colourbond and can shed some light? Re: Rain on colourbond roof? 2Nov 27, 2009 2:45 pm I love the sound of rain as well and you will definately be able to hear the rain a lot better with a colourbond roof. I've lived with both and prefer colorbond for this reason alone You can still hear it with tiles, but its rather muffled sounding. Unless its heavy rain viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Rain on colourbond roof? 4Nov 27, 2009 3:01 pm Yes, I agree - I love the sound of rain on a colourbond or tin roof - can fall asleep listening to it - but its not so loud you cant hold a conversation or hear the TV or normal everyday things. It wont be as loud in a house as it was in the CB shed though because a house has ceiling insulation which a shed does not Re: Rain on colourbond roof? 7Nov 27, 2009 3:49 pm I wanted a cb roof for this very reason. My old house had a cb roof and i loved it when it rained. Unfortunately i just couldnt stretch the budget another $2300 for cb this time. DH took a bit of convincing and if we still lived in suburbia I doubt i'd have been able to talk him into it. hmm I wonder what his view would be now that we live with a cb roof. th down side is when the roof warms up you hear the odd popping sound. but its not too bad. Unfortunately i just couldnt stretch the budget another $2300 for cb this time. Why did they want to charge that extra money? With my builder its actually cheaper. Re: Rain on colourbond roof? 10Nov 28, 2009 8:10 pm I think it depends on many factors including *where* you are. In NSW (where I am) CB roofs can be more expensive than tiles simply because there are fewer CB installations. In other states, I understand that CB is more prevalent and is therefore cheaper than tile. Having said that our builder charged us the same amount as the upgraded tiles we selected. We wanted CB -- so we're getting it Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Cheers. The painted render is a bit chalky to the touch.
