Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 26, 2009 1:15 pm Hi all, I am new to this forum. My house has been under construction for 18 weeks now. My site manager has not been able to give me a firm date as yet for handover, he just says "definitely before Christmas". As I can tell, the only things to be completed now are: - Finish painting (they have done first coat). - Concrete driveway (including drain in front of garage) - Concrete path and slab (for clothesline) - Fencing (ONLY ONE SIDE LEFT - being done end of this week) - Door handles - Toilet roll holders & towel rails - Mirrors in bathrooms - Shower screens - Fly wire screens - Heating unit (may already be in??) - Mirror doors for robes - Carpet - Blinds throughout - Hot water service - Kitchen appliances - Letterbox - Clothesline - Front lawn I have been told that some of these, i.e. carpet and mirror doors on the robes will be done day of settlement. Also, I have heard from others who have built that some things are done after settlement and you have to call them to come back i.e. front lawn and even kitchen appliances. Is anyone able to let me know from your experience, does this sound close to completion? I am trying to start organising my move since we are now so close to Christmas, but with my site manager not willing to commit to a date, it makes it difficult. Also, does anyone have any further info on what to expect during handover? Thanks in advance!! That said, after Christmas work often stops on sites until late Jan. Kinda lose-lose either way in that situation. Re: Questions re handover 3Nov 26, 2009 2:09 pm crap! lol Yeah, I get what you're saying. I have to make sure it's all correct. Have been staying on top of things from the start - found they did the BIR at 2200 high instead of 2340 which was in my plans. They fixed that already. Also found the sliding door in the laundary was opening the wrong way. It meant that the washing machine almost blocked the opening. They fixed that already too. Oh and the sliding door off the meals area was getting stuck and that has been replaced. Hopefully I don't find too much else. Counting on moving before Christmas!! :S Current build Porter Davis Brookwater 49, Eucalypt Wollert Build: 24th Jul 2015 - Approx Mar 2016 Previous build DFH Columbia 21, Lyndarum Epping North Build:20th Jul 2009 - 18th Dec 2009 Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10470 We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
