Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 24, 2009 8:31 pm This is my first build. I just want to know if I should be worried already that 4 weeks has passed since the last work was done to our house. We are already on the 13th week of our build and brickworks have not even started yet. I tried following up with my site supervisor but his answer is always that we will start the brickworks next week. This has been his answer for the last 2 weeks. However, up to now not one brick was laid to our house. Based on my builders procedure of construction, paintworks should have already started. I am contemplating on writing to the construction manager since I am not getting an accurate status or reply from my SS or my CSC. Please advise what to do. Re: Slow build progress 2Nov 24, 2009 9:19 pm Hi Edward, i would be sending in a letter to the house company reminding them that in accordance with the building schedule (if its in your contract) that the works are behind schedule. is there any reason why they are so slow? has there been alot of bad weather where you are or have you not paid a progress payment on time? its amazing what good a letter can do. my build (which is soooo close to completion) has had very little work done during this month. over the weekend i wrote a detailed letter expressing my concerns and amazingly on monday my PCI was suddenly arranged, pavers for my driveway were delivered today, the site has been cleaned up and the painters were back on site. it seems to have done wonders! being so early in in the building stage there is probably still time for the builders to catch up but atleast by expressing your concerns in writing you are showing the builders that you are keeping track of the build and aware of where the build should be at. goodluck mel Re: Slow build progress 3Nov 24, 2009 10:01 pm Totally agree with Mel...write a letter politely expressing your concerns. It can't hurt and formalising it might just get them moving. Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Slow build progress 4Nov 25, 2009 7:17 pm Thanks for all your suggestions. I don't think they have any reason for the delayed brickworks. The only reason I can think of is that they are not prioritising my build. The bricks have been on the site for more than a month already. Its just sitting there and some of the bricks were already damaged. Re: Slow build progress 5Nov 26, 2009 1:49 pm there are times where not much happens. I am onto week 19 currently. Weeks 12-16 saw hardly any work done. Prior to that 4 week down time, everything was going nice and fast. Since then a lot of work has started again although this week has been a quite one again. Others building in my street did the same thing. I have noticed periods where they just stopped completely. I agree with the above poster. Write a polite letter about your concerns. But I think it is to a degree, normal to have periods where little or nothing happens.
