Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 22, 2009 7:05 pm Hi forum, I have to put the BBQ point in my house. i'm in dilema as i can't decide whether the bbq point should be in pergola or not ? and also whether a pergola can be outside of master bedroom or not?? please advice. Thanks forum, simpson Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 2Nov 22, 2009 7:40 pm any more details? might help people give their opinions/suggestions. How narrow is narrow? Where exactly is the family room in relation to the main bedroom? what direction do these areas face? buzz Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 3Nov 22, 2009 9:44 pm Yes, too many variables - depends on your floor plan, block oriention, location, lifestyle etc etc. I personally would not want an alfresco outside my bedroom, but then my alfresco is a social area, not a private courtyard, like some people do want from their bedrooms, also we both work shiftwork and want our bedroom as far from the action as possible - which it is; its at the front and other side to alfresco Some people may want childrens bedrooms away from alfresco for same reasons - not an issue for us, only have one 17 yr old at home, we go to bed before him I have my alfresco opening from my family room, it is at the side of the house, flanked by house on one side, back of garage on one, divdeing fence on one and open to garden at end. I much prefer an alfresco which has vison and access to back garden than a 'landlocked courtyard' which many are. I also would avoid an alfresco which faces west; hot and glary in afternoon sun but this may not be a problem for you, depending on your location. Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 4Nov 22, 2009 10:20 pm Off the family for sure but if you can afford to do both then that would be a bonus Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 5Nov 23, 2009 8:49 am buzz any more details? might help people give their opinions/suggestions. It's 4 meter wide from boundary itself... it is north facing. Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 6Nov 23, 2009 3:15 pm Put in a vote for off family room. 4m doesn't sound too narrow and north facing .... best if you could put in 2 pergolas you know when the money tree grows abit, but for BBQ point, I'd do it near the family room. Good luck simpson Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 7Nov 23, 2009 3:52 pm we put our alfresco off the family/kitchen room as a pre-area before the backyard. Our alfresco is under the roof so I'm thinking that I will be placing the BBQ outside it (next to the secondary fence) as I'm concerned with the grease/tar that can accumulate under the roof if BBQ is placed under the roof. ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. Good luck simpson Thansk Buzz.. You have build my confidence Then how about BBQ point? Inside pergola or outside? Re: best place for pergola or alfresco? 10Nov 24, 2009 8:17 am I like the alfresco room off the main living rooms.... you want the bbq to be near kitchen and living rooms. Traipsing back and forth with plates and salads and drinks and so on is best over the shortest possible area. Especially after more than a few drinks... Our bbq is going outside the alfresco room against a section of blank brick wall (as soon as we get our paving done ). Partly to give us more room in the alfresco for seating/tables etc, and partly so as not to dirty up our nice ceiling with smoke and grease.
