Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 20, 2009 9:33 pm I am going to start looking at houses tomorrow to see what we like and what pricerange we are looking at. If you don't mind sharing or pm'ing me at least. How many squares is your house, did you go project builder or go privately and do a custom build. Did you do upgrades etc and what was the final $$$$ Re: How much did it cost? 2Nov 20, 2009 9:47 pm How long is a piece of string. Depending you your requirements and tastes (read finishes) the price can vary quite a lot. You can probably expect $10,000, plus or minus $3,000 per square, as a rough ballpark - will anyone agree with me? Good luck with your house watching! Trying this building gig one more time. Re: How much did it cost? 3Nov 20, 2009 9:54 pm There's a few threads floating around. Here is one where a lot of people said house size and price. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17134&hilit And one about how much above base price people went with their total price. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3138&hilit=base+price I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: How much did it cost? 4Nov 20, 2009 9:57 pm Our house with medium quality finishes, ie: nice tiles and carpet, stone benchtops to kitchen, mid-range euro kitchen appliances, intercom/security/vacuum system etc will end up approx $900-$1000/m2 including a driveway but minimal (if any) landscaping. Our house is 45squares, two-storey. My mum's house which is 25-26squares, single storey with similar finishes, ended up in a similar range. Re: How much did it cost? 6Nov 20, 2009 10:07 pm hi. I am buiding through a large, mainstream building company. My house is 318 sq mtrs. The starting price was just over $150 grand, then with the add-ons (footings, septic, upgrades, ducted air-cond,etc,etc) we finished at just over $230. Then after hand over I have to get the flooring done, curtains, paving in the alfresco and the perimetre of the house....etc....etc. My next door neighbours are doing the owner/builder thang. They are saving masses of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but they have the headache of trying to find contractors to do the work. This has definitely not been easy for them as most of the contractors are busy working for the big building companies. It took them nearly 9 months to get someone in to tile their main bathroom so they didnt have to keep going to her parents house for a shower (they are living in it as they're building it up around them). Either way has got their own pros & cons, it just depends of what your capable of enduring-spending lots of $$ & get a house, or save lots of $$$ & get headaches and a house.Either way you go;do your homework and shop around! All the best for your decision!!
