Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 20, 2009 4:37 pm For those of you that might think about building with this builder you might want to read about how they operate. If you speak with them it is, a must that you send it in to them in writing , but its ok for them to give their decissions back to you over the phone via a second party at their main office. They use Supreme kitchens to do their cabinets / kitchens and they dont live up to there name of SUPREME, We recently asked them to supply $5.00 worth of timber and labour to the back of the hot plate and over the dishwasher cavity to support Granite bench tops that we had arranged from another company to instal as theirs were 100% dearer and had a reply of no you didnt buy them from us , we wont and dont want anything to do with it .When we asked Fairmont to help rectify the situation they point blank said it wasnt an issue for them to resolve. We offered to pay for the extra work to bring the "standard cupboards " up to an acceptable standard to support the granite tops. While you are building with them they wont allow access to your property what so ever and repeatedly remind you that you are tresspassing, GO FIGURE were paying the rates/mortgage. While building you will be given your electricity bill for the power consumption that they use to build your home?? They have supervisors that conveintly forget what they say if it suits them ?? He even accused us of cleaning a full house of new windows the day after they had been installed .? what was he thinking ? He has no comprehention of communication with the client , its you will do as i say and nothing else will be entered into the conversation. The roof unless you upgrade it and they make you sign a disclaimer wont even be able to support an evaporative airconditioner as its not capable in its standard form , not bad ah. As per usual ppl you need to look at the fine print and get it all in writing you will regret it if you dont .This is not a pleasant situation and would advise you to seriously look around as they dont rate in my veiw. Ask questions in writing and get the reply in writing is the best way. Re: Fairmont Homes SA 2Nov 20, 2009 5:37 pm Hughy, Sorry to hear about your experiences. These sort of problems are seemingly common amognst alot of posters in here - I've been lucky, fingers crossed, and haven't had any major difficulties yet. I've heard a few people in here building with Fairmont and they seem happy - I considered using them but I wasn't too impressed with the display homes I saw at one of their villages and was even less impressed with the sales person. I think getting everything in writing is really important - I used email so you can request a read receipt. That way there's no way they can deny getting the email or deny anything they promise!! Tom Almost finished building the Ambrose + study villa with McCracken homes in Park Holme, SA. Only painting, stormwater, paving & flooring left then moving in. Re: Fairmont Homes SA 3Nov 20, 2009 10:15 pm Yer i agree Tom i did email the office and after having no reply from the construction manager himself who was making the final decission .This was 9 days and 2 return phone calls and interigation by the receptionist before i was passed on to a young office girl who had the job of breaking the news to me that they wanted nothing to do with the extra "work " to bring the cupboards up to a reasonable standard.I asked to speak to the person concered and the reply was he doesnt talk to their "valued "customers.A really poor and pathetic response i thought.ignore the customer and he will go away is the attitude..POOR POOR POOR Take ya money and run. Re: Fairmont Homes SA 4Nov 21, 2009 12:02 am I've been pretty happy with Fairmont so far. The salesman was recommended to me by my best friend who has built in the same street as me and her Mum used to work for the company. My neighbour to be also had the same salesman. He gave me a really competitive quote on our custom design ( actually it was the cheapest by a country mile) and has been really accommodating with my constant quote changes (we had 10). He added a few things in that I hadn't thought of and also after we had signed the contract I noticed that two doors I had said I wanted as French doors hadn't been itemised so I emailed him. He got back to me and said that he couldn't price that as it was a selection item but had added in four downlights (at $175 a piece) and that we could get those credited back and use on the doors! I thought that was pretty good service. I agree I wasn't overly impressed with their displays (their interior design leaves a bit to be desired) but in the end they were the cheapest so what can you do? I am confident that I will get a house that I will be happy with. PS my friend got access to her house to put insulation in the walls so maybe it depends on your SS. We're hoping we'll be able to get access to do AC and computer wiring. Re: Fairmont Homes SA 5Nov 22, 2009 8:11 pm Jesstibb I've been pretty happy with Fairmont so far. My aircon people over cut two holes for my vents, and who fixed the mistake ...my builder did, and that not their responsibility so i get it. My fence guy broke the stormwater pipe, he fixed it, but this is what the builder dosnt want to happen.
