Re: How big is your alfresco/patio? 22Nov 20, 2009 10:24 pm I actually stepped out my alfresco today its about 3.5 x 3.5... i think... So kinda small... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Some fantastic alfrescos out there. . . here's the best pic I have of ours so far. . . Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It's the sticky outy roof bit just to the right of the middle of the house. It's about 9m x 3.8m, we're still deciding if we wished we'd made it a bit wider than 3.8m. . . I suppose we'll know when we try and fit the outdoor furniture out there! Also, as we're on a sloping block, it's going to be more like a big balcony than an alfresco. . . it's well over a metre off the ground, hopefully the builder will put some more dirt around the back of the house so we don't have to have balustrade all the way round! Re: How big is your alfresco/patio? 25Nov 21, 2009 7:32 am Hels The whole thing will be enclosed with PVC zip track blinds Here's a pic of the alfresco and patio roof so far; After experience with ours, I suggest putting a chinaman vent or something like in the roof to let the heat out - it can get real hot out there if you keep the blinds down. Do you experience much dust in your area? Re: How big is your alfresco/patio? 26Nov 21, 2009 7:34 am Holy cow! I just calculated our paved outdoor living area, and it's going to be almost 70 m2. A bit different to our first home - our entire house was only 111 m2. I think the deck (with 1993 pergola ) was about 25 m2... I have no idea how we survived wihtout killing each other. Same as us, now we've moved out of our 12sq house I have no idea how we fit in it for 8yrs It started off with just 2 of us, but we left with 5 people and 2 cats Loving all these pics people! I will be building a roof on it soon though with alternating colorbond and laserlite ^^This is a really important consideration. Something to think about whichever type of structure you go with. That's one of the things I like about our alfresco. The rooms off it have other windows for the light source so they are not too dark. The exception being the study. Ah I hadn't thought of this, but you're totally right, I dont want it cutting off the natural light, thanks for the tip! Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... We are concreting around 70m2 with exposed aggregate though and will probably use a couple of shade sails or something to shade some of that. Our last build we had a pitched roof patio which was 5.5mx12m, it was huge and was great for the kids to play outside. Do you experience much dust in your area? Thanks, I am a bit worried about that especially as it faces west. We might need to add a couple of whirly birds later. Although we could lift the blinds slightly and put the ceiling fans on full blast Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. One main one which is 12.8 length x 3.7 at one end it narrows down to 2.4 or total of 48.32m2 and the kids patio is 6.5 length x 3 (22.20m2) this runs off their playroom.
So a total of 70.52m2. I'm happy with this so far but am yet to live in the house, the slab just got poured last friday Re: How big is your alfresco/patio? 33Nov 21, 2009 9:28 pm milly_monster Milly this looks lovely, I like the way it has it's own roofline, very nice Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. And that INCLUDED the balcony and garage!!! Garage? ....Garage? Luxury!! We had a self-built single carport that we eventually added brick piers and a roller door to the front of, and we thought that was the bee's knees. Our lovely deck saved our sanity, I'm sure. It became an extra room that got used for about 8 months of the year. Thank goodness for a northern orientation! Even though we have a whopper of a house now, with practically enough living rooms for the five of us to have one each, our al fresco room was a must-have. The old covered deck hosted many parties, Christmas dinners, kids' birthdays, bbqs, and got used for a lot of our meals - so we wouldn't have considered any house design that didn't offer a decent-sized covered outdoor area. Re: How big is your alfresco/patio? 37Nov 22, 2009 9:36 am Our alfresco under the roof line is 5.0 x 2.3 (11.5m2). Once we move in, we'll extend it and add another 16.3 x 3.6 (approx 58m2). We're outdoorsy people, do most our living and entertaining outdoors.
