Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 18, 2009 8:16 pm Hi there, I have had a search on here and haven't found anything to help me. If I've missed it, please point me in the right direction! Our new home is almost finished and we need to start thinking about window furnishings. We have decided on roller blinds but because we are not living at the same place as our house is being built, we're not sure what colour we should have. We have gone for a very neutral colour scheme - white walls and tiles with accents of charcoal grey in kitchen, bathroom and bedroom carpets. Our window frames are black. I've had a look for some pictures but haven't found an awful lot. So I'm turning to you guys Do you think charcoal blinds would be too much of a contrast against white walls? Does anyone have photos of something similar that may help us decide? Thanks in advance, Mandy and Pete Re: White colour scheme...charcoal blinds? 2Nov 18, 2009 8:24 pm Don't have a photo to show but my sister's house has black window frames with tinting and white Plantation Shutters, the walls are a neutral colour. I think the contrast looks good but I am not a colours expert!! Where on the sunny coast are you building? So are we!!! It's so hard to try and imagine it without being there! I think I'll ask the builder to send me some photos and I'll 'paint' some on. We're building at Woodgrove. Where abouts are you building? There are so many nice estates popping up at the moment! Re: White colour scheme...charcoal blinds? 5Nov 18, 2009 9:11 pm I've got 5 'skinny' windows in our bedroom, 1 1200x1800 in each of the other bedrooms, an 1800x1500 in the study, 2 full size windows 1800x1800 and a sliding door in the living area. We think we may get sunscreens in the living area. I agree Suh, too much white would make me feel very cold Re: White colour scheme...charcoal blinds? 6Nov 19, 2009 4:25 am [quote="MandyandPete"]I've got 5 'skinny' windows in our bedroom, 1 1200x1800 in each of the other bedrooms, an 1800x1500 in the study, 2 full size windows 1800x1800 and a sliding door in the living area. Re: White colour scheme...charcoal blinds? 7Nov 19, 2009 2:37 pm I think it would look fine. We are having all white though LOL.. you can never have enough whites and lights. But I think it is all about the overall look that you are trying to achieve. The charcoal will look great and offset your other greys. Ours is earthy and whites. We have red bricks and white frames and blinds. Kat Re: White colour scheme...charcoal blinds? 8Nov 19, 2009 2:47 pm We are having mushroom coloured walls with white skirtings and architraves. We have chosen charcoal panel glides and rollers in the view screen fabric for some of our windows. The other windows are going to be white venetians as we didn't want it to be too much dark colour. I have seen the double roller blinds where one is a viewscreen material (either white or charcoal) and the other is a block out blind in a contrasting colour. I think spotlight do them as well. What about something like that to break it up a little? I think that despite the black window frames, charcoal roller blinds would look odd. Personally I think you should stick with white. The charcoal against white walls will just look confused, imho. You could opt for a *subtle* patterned fabric (nothing too O.T.T) to add a little interest... but I think white is right Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney.
