Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Facade V Pool 23Nov 19, 2009 4:22 am Markus1984 Thanks Salt - we think alike.. love the Majestic Facade however brain says Pool.. I highly doubt that we would ever open the balcony door, while the alfresco would look great with a view to the pool. arghh start building already... Ok...if you aren't going to open the balcony door, and you are happy with the Classic design, do the pool for sure. The balcony obviously isn't an issue at all with you which is good SO YEAH....POOL! Re: Facade V Pool 24Nov 19, 2009 5:49 am Salt&PepperMkII Although facades make a fine first impression, 80% of the time you dont see the facade as youre inside. BUT, in saying this, you will be able to see the pool from many angles, and actually use it. But now Im confused...we put quite a bit of money into our facade. I totally agree The facade is very important but the classic can look equally stunning with careful selection of bricks and colours....I would get a colour consultant to help you so you have a colour combination that is 'unique' for your property and not just the same colour as all the other houses. As for a balcony, its in the front so therefore you would never use it (most likely) so therefore a waste of money and resource. I dont think there is really much difference between the 2 facades that a bit of clever landscaping, plantings and colour that cant fix. A pool....I am so jealous just imagine on a 40 degree day, entertaining with friends on the alfesco and dipping into the cool waters of a pool. I dont think for a moment you will think about 'I should of gone for the facde' Mrs B Re: Facade V Pool 25Nov 19, 2009 9:23 am Classic Facade + Pool We live in our backyard, alfresco and pool area. I have a small balcony and would be lucky to go out on it once a week. I'm not really into sitting out there and looking at the neighbours I think the Classic facade looks really nice. Good luck in making a decision! Happy at Home Re: Facade V Pool 26Nov 19, 2009 11:32 am Thanks guys... i'm leaning towards the Classic + Pool and am 70% sure My family and friends are in-favour of the pool and we all know why.. How long do you think it takes to re-draw the plans ?? Reason i ask is that i've been waiting on the initial drawings for a two months.. don't want to delay it any further.. Michelle - wish i could, however settled on the fact that it's just not possible.. Suh - Pool it is .. well i hope i don't change my mind again.. MrsB - I'll definately need tips from the colour consultant and landscaping will need a lot of work.. I can see it now, home from work - pool - barbe.. HTB - I'm the same, i think i would be too shy to sit on the balcony overlooking the neighbours.. looking at future family, kids would much rather the pool than how the facade looks and entertaining would be great out back.. I think i am at peace now.. All Finally Done March 2012 Re: Facade V Pool 27Nov 19, 2009 12:12 pm What about having the facade you want and maybe just having an outdoor spa as well instead of a pool? Or perhaps one of those swimspa things? Just a thought. Re: Facade V Pool 28Nov 19, 2009 12:34 pm Now that's a great idea.. hmm you have me stumped ATS.. Is there anyone here that has every used a SwimSpa ?!? Is it worthwhile .. My options were either: 1. Majestic - with a water feature in the alfresco area.. 2. Classic and Swimming Pool - I just love the relaxing sound of water while entertaining guests.. All Finally Done March 2012 Re: Facade V Pool 29Nov 19, 2009 12:57 pm Well you were at peace We have a big 10m x 4.1m pool and I love it. However.....a friend has installed a swim spa, I think it's 5m x 3.5m. She loves it and it fits in their yard nicely but she would love a bigger pool for her three kids. I think it really depends on what you'll use the pool for. I have a few kids, plus nieces, plus neighbourhood kids, plus me So there is usually anywhere between 4 and 10 kids in my pool If you have the space to go for a bigger pool my advice would be to do it. Especially if your Family and Friends visit Happy at Home Re: Facade V Pool 30Nov 19, 2009 1:38 pm I think a swim spa (decent sized one) is around the $22k mark (might be different in your state though??). I always thought they were for like swimmers or people wanting to get fit The way this one was set up was swimming into water that blows you right back. We are looking at a spa as well as a pool - the spa we had a look at was about $13k and it come with a tv, cooler boxes speaker system etc. Our pool is costing 22.5k for a concrete pool with pebblecrete i think its called, air jets and underwater lights. Re: Facade V Pool 31Nov 19, 2009 1:49 pm HTB to the rescue - definately will need the bigger pool if i indeed go that way.. Thinking about pool maintenance and extras (ie fencing, landscaping), the split is now at 60-40.. hmm my brain can't take any more info.. I'll spend time with friends this weekend mulling over the decision - let's hope i get convinced one way or the other.. That's interesting MsB, i'm thinking a budget of $30k is okay for a 10x3.5m pool here in NSW? Don't think family members will have any interest in the SwimSpa. All Finally Done March 2012 Re: Facade V Pool 32Nov 19, 2009 2:10 pm Its definitely a hard decision thats for sure! Just remember you are the one living there though - family do visit but that shouldnt be the sole reason for your decision. Maybe for the weekend when your just sitting there, think to yourself, would I be in a pool now if I had one? Re: Facade V Pool 33Nov 19, 2009 2:17 pm The timing for the question is not ideal.. Sydney weekend forecast Saturday 41 and Sunday 37.. All Finally Done March 2012 Re: Facade V Pool 34Nov 19, 2009 4:43 pm Whilst I would say facade over the pool, I don't think I could validate spending 30k for a facade upgrade (cost of a pool), from a 'value for money' perspective. So yeah, go the pool. It looks like the upstairs area is the 'kids zone' anyway. I'm going with a balcony at the place I'm building purely for aesthetics since my facade is a bit boring without it. Re: Facade V Pool 36Nov 20, 2009 9:40 am Thanks guys.. Had a chat with my dad last night, who is trying to convince me that the pool is too much hassle - this may be biased as he likes the Majestic facade.. While my mum is for the pool.. Asked two friends last night,Girl (Majestic) and Guy (Pool). This decision is literally split down the middle.. There's been a push overnight for the Majestic according to the Poll (now 70-30 in favour of pool). Blown - 100 times better - Sheepdog - that's how i feel, doesn't justify the amount of money or does it (see above).. All Finally Done March 2012 Re: Facade V Pool 37Nov 20, 2009 9:49 am Just noticed on your plans, that beds 2, 3 & 4 are upstairs, so they are the kidlets rooms and the rumpus up there is for them as well I am gathering...SO, they won't need a balcony for anything ie cocktails @ 5 or private chats about the day's events. The kitchen/family/meals all down off the alfresco, which is where you will be 99.9% of the time...SO ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY....GET THE POOL Re: Facade V Pool 38Nov 20, 2009 9:52 am Markus1984 Thanks guys.. It's funny your dad said too much hassle because thats exactly what my dad said! (did you have a pool all your life?) well I did and my dad could deal with it so my husband will have to deal with it too I'd definately go with the pool, but thats coming from someone who has always had a big beautiful pool to swim in, couldnt live without it. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Facade V Pool 39Nov 20, 2009 11:57 am Thanks Suh for the show of confidence.. I believe that i would be better off with the Classic and Pool - the balcony is really only for the looks not use.. Hmm.. i think i am just afraid of having a further delay with the request to re-draw - been eight weeks and haven't received the first draft.. Mandy - never had a pool in the family - sister was the first when she bought an existing property last year with it already there.. definately great for entertaining .. Dad points to the electricity bill + cleaning expenses + time.. however after posting on "cazoraz" thread regarding the alfresco.. picture gave me a glimpse of how nice it would be with a pool out back.. although it will reduce the backyard space.. The realist in me says "build the house first, then the pool". But again, spending so much on a facade seems to be a bit of a rip. Have another think about creative landscaping ideas or possibly a different facade solution. Like I've seen people do the porch type area under the balcony without making the balcony - this doesn't need to be roofed, its just there to add another dimension. Also, double check what the real costs are for the majestic facade. Are the costs given just structural and render? Will there be more costs for the colours and lighting to actually make the look work? Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 7496 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4211 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7542 |
