Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 17, 2009 4:08 pm Has anyone else had this problem. My specification state towel rings. My builder is refusing to give them to me, they tell me the specifcation is a guide of what I can choses. WTF. No its not, its a legal document explaining exactly what I am getting. They tell me if there is conflict the selection book is referred to first, I understand that, but since this document dosn't show towel rings, we go to the next document. My builder is basically saying this selection book overrides everything, which is clearly not true, since this selection book does not have everything in it.... like what items are connected to the rainwater tank, my kitchen selections are in a whole different book, this book dosn't state my builder only gives 8 meters of electrical run. Has anyone else had the problem of their builder not honouring their own specifications. Consumer Affairs is on my side, as this specification is part of the building contact, but honestly I can't believe I have to argue about towel rings. Re: Builder refusing to give me towel rings 3Nov 17, 2009 5:10 pm I like nqdog's suggestion cos I've often wondered why they give us 5 days to make a progress payment when they used to take their sweet time getting things done for us before the build!! Seriously, I totally agree with you. If it says towel rings in the contract then you should get towel rings UNLESS they've also got a clause saying they reserve the right to substitute a similar product. But hey...what would they propose to substitute a towel ring with? When you made your selections, did you specify a height for towel rings/rails? We did -- and I'm just thinking if you did this then it adds further weight to your argument. Good luck...Pix. Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Builder refusing to give me towel rings 4Nov 17, 2009 5:13 pm thats a pretty poor effort from your builder . i would take the matter to the next person up, as it is clearly in the legally binding document. im sure the state manager would be more than happy to assist you on the matter remember word of mouth is the most powerful form of advertising! good luck When times get tough build a house...Our second build Re: Builder refusing to give me towel rings 5Nov 17, 2009 5:41 pm Do you mean the small towel rings for hand towels that you have near a vanity?? What a bizarre thing for the builder to argue over - even stranger than the other thread where a builder refused to put shelves in a linen press We had a towel ring in our variations - total cost supplied and installed (with builders profit margin) of $29 Re: Builder refusing to give me towel rings 6Nov 17, 2009 5:54 pm I am up to my final payment, so for the sake of towel rings I will be paying to get my keys, but it won't stop me from going to consumer affairs or the building commission.
