Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 13, 2009 3:01 pm Hi All, Just signed up. Excited about building our new home, the first one and last. We have a baseline plan and need to decide on the construction material, mainly external walls, even internal feature if needed. Reading many topics, there are so many products that can be used to cover external walls, e.g Hebel blocks, Concrete blocks, Masterwall, tradition bv, etc etc. Let me get to the question. The house will be a 2 storey around 41Sq and the hard part is deciding to use traditional brick or go for Hebel blocks for ground floor and use Masterwall for upper level. Lets take the ground floor, although Hebel is more costly, there appears to be many benefits using Hebel, insulation, environmental, sound, weight, but no one has talked about the one for one cost benefit using Hebel v all other material, especially when it comes down to laying time, ease of use and how it compares to a brick to block cost. I guess my question is open and there will be many variables, all I have read has been info provided by the makers of Hebel products, naturally biased. To add to the complexity, we are hoping to render all walls to make sure the colour scheme fits the environment and our taste of colour, maybe using Hebel and then covering it up is not the done thing! I look forward to some interesting feedback. Big M in Victoria have a great deal on a Hebel home right now ~ $2,000. For example they have the comparison for a fully rendered 29sq house being approx $20,000. See http://tinyurl.com/yaszvvt (Tiny URL because we cannot link to Big M due to filters) 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6173 I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5871 1 6601 |
