Sorry to bump an old thread, but l thought it better to do that than start another thread.

DH and l finally got around to talking about what to do our driveways, portico, paths and alfresco area in. He assumed just plain concrete and me well, l want something a bit more schmick,lol. Especially as we have a triple garage so the driveway will be quite wide. I really like the exposed aggregate and he didn't, he liked the concrete stencils and l don't....

Anyhoo, I have convinced DH to go with an exposed agg driveway, portico and the front path. Actually he pretty much convinced himself when he took notice of other peoples driveways in the course of his work travels, lol.

The only thing l'm stuck on now, is what to do the alfresco in?? I want the kids and myself for that matter to be able to walk around comfortably in barefoot on there, and l think if we get exp agg there, that won't be possible yeah??

So am wondering what have other people have done, exposed agg right throughout? and the pros and cons of it . And also, any comments/suggestions as to what alternative surfaces we can go with for the alfresco and rear paths, that'll still look good.

Does anyone know if there is a concrete display place any where in the north of Melbourne that you can go to look at the different types that's available and get rough idea's of cost?

Not that I'm aware of. I drove around our Estate and knocked on a few doors to get details. Found it hard to meet up for quotes though as I was 45mins away. Ended up going with a concreter that a H1/blogger used, he gave me a brochure to choose the colour and pattern from. We went with colour-through concrete with stencil pattern and it was $60sqm.

I will keep you posted, though it could be a while, our plans are still not finalised, we're waiting on our draftsman, so we have a long way to go yet.

Just wanted to check on the quotes we have got for driveway. Does it look reasonable ?

The driveway is about 46 sq meter
Slate Pattern : $ 2900 ( ~ 63 / sq meter)
Stencils : $ 3300 ( ~ $72 / sq meter )
Exposed : $3700 ( ~ $ 80.5 / sq meter )
+ $600 Fixed ($400 for excavation , $100 tipping/soil/rubbish, $100 drains )

still not decided between stencil/slate/exposed... confused !!

I also got quote for plain concrete for alfresco and verandah area. Planning to get timber deck over the concrete.
Plain Concrete : $1700 for 33 sq meters ( ~$51.5 per sq meter )

On a related topic is it required/recommended to do plain concrete on area one plans to do Timber Decking. Are there other cheaper alternatives to do Timber decking w/o doing concrete underneath.

looks reasonable Subhashish, but prices will vary considerably depending on the mix if you go for exposed aggregate.

I would love to go for the exposed aggregate driveway! but as a first home buyer, our budget wont allow it =(

So we will be going for the cheapest/budget alternative for our driveways. Is plain concrete the option for us? May I know how much does it cost to do just a plain concrete , natural colour? Our driveway will be around 40 sqm.

Also, I will be building on the west of Melbourne. Would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out to provide me with contact details of their concreter?
