Browse Forums Building A New House Re: About a driveway 10Jul 08, 2007 6:49 pm Thanks so much for all the replies everyone. I have to say Matt I really like the exposed aggreate look for driveways, so I was pleased to know that it really wasn't that expensive. I also like the sort of broken sandstoney look inset in the white mortar paths that Porter Davis do. (I know thats a terrible explanation) Does anyone have any idea how much this would be per sq meter?
Cheers Emi Re: About a driveway 11Jul 08, 2007 8:12 pm fojean Hi Matt... Would you be able to pm me the details of the contractor/business that will be doing your driveway...just fwd planning and may need a quote... Thanks Fojean, The company is called River Rock Landscapes http://www.riverrocklandscapes.com.au I don't think they come over that way but they might know somebody to recommend. I like exposed aggregate for several reasons but the main ones are that they are non slip, they never look dirty (in brown) and they trap the mud from dirty shoes... Re: About a driveway 14Jul 09, 2007 9:49 am I hate to admit it - but I like Matt's driveway choice too. We are going to do something similar. D'oh!
Prices of any driveway will vary by material, slop, finish, and location. Look around your area, and if you see one you like, knock on the door and ask the owner who did the job - then get your own quote. Many pattern-concrete driveways have the supplier name stamped into the concrete. Perry Re: About a driveway 15Jul 09, 2007 10:13 am ~27m long driveway using around 10cm of gravel (2 grades) $1100. Re: About a driveway 16Jul 09, 2007 4:44 pm We've used exposed aggregate very similar to the grey one in Matt's photos. It cost $13,750 but that was for about 230sq.m and includes the alfresco area and plain concrete on the blind side. It sounds like a huge amount but our block is very wide and we are having a driveway that curves past the house. It worked out to be about $60 per sq.m Re: About a driveway 18Jul 09, 2007 6:07 pm Vpande,
I'll let you know in a few years! Seriously though, it seems to be quite a new trend so not many people have had it laid for a long time. Who knows? We were actually going to have stencilled concrete but our concreter persuaded us to go with the aggregate. It matches the modern style of our house and also because if we do get cracks which seems probable eventually with the drought, then they are not as obvious in the aggregate as in the stencilled concrete. It was the same price for both. We had pavers at our last house but couldn't afford them again Re: About a driveway 19Jul 10, 2007 9:19 am vpande Hey Penjay, I have a few concerns about exposed aggregate for driveways.. Does it get greyish and mossy/mouldy with few years of use? Looking forward to some feedback I guess if you don't look after it properly and wash it every year or so, you get those dirty stuffs no matter which material you use, isn't it? Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Current stage: old house demolished, contract signed, fence ready, waiting for excavation to start... Re: About a driveway 20Jul 10, 2007 10:46 am mattwalker Personally I will be goign with exposed aggregate (love the look and texture) and it will cost around $5000. Showed the Bf the pics you posted of the exposed aggregate driveway and he liked it. Now, he wants that instead of the plain concrete! All your fault, matt! All your fault. Now I have to go get more quotes. Again! JK! It does look a lot better actually. [sneakersss] To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 |
