Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 09, 2009 10:17 pm I am building in the City of Wanneroo and was wanting some input on long long it took to receive the building license from time of application. We were originally told 4-6 weeks, then 8 weeks and now 10 weeks. Apparently it has been assessed and now we are waiting for it to be signed off, but not sure if that means it needs to just be signed or if more work has to happen on it. We would appreciate your experiences. The City of Wanneroo covers a pretty big area and with the FHOG i'm not surprised its taking that long. Are you building with a builder or doing owner builder? I work for a building company and i know it can be really hard at times to try push through a home to get a building licence as it only annoys them and at the end of the day, they're just trying to do their job properly. The FHOG has created a pretty big backlog and everyone is pushing to get their home to site so they can start drawing on their loans etc. With this its hard for a builder to call more than once a week. The best advice i can give is for you to personally call them - as you will effectively be living in the area or may already do so, you are the local member, tax payer and voter so its their job to keep you happy. I'd suggest calling once a week and asking how things are going, keep it friendly and build empathy with them for the pressure they are under to get licences out. Ask if there's anything missing or anything you can do to make their life easier for your B/L and you may find it also works really well going to the shires office in person. Apart from that - sit back and take it easy. It may seem like a wait but with how things are at the moment, you'll probably find your home will be built very quickly and will make up for the lost time. cheers Jay Re: Building license timing Wanneroo WA 4Nov 11, 2009 10:59 pm Thanks Jay, that's great advice. We are building with Celebration Homes and they have been fantastic. They advised us to give the council a call to chase up. I am trying so hard to not get frustrated and show some patience, so it is kind of good to know that others are in the same boat as us. I will limit my call to once a week (I guess I should listen to my husband - he said the same thing as you). Thanks again. Intially quotes 6-8wks for approval. All the best, I know the waiting is frustrating. Re: Building license timing Wanneroo WA 6Nov 14, 2009 12:18 am Thanks Mat Spoke to the builder today and they said next week, which is the 9 week mark so fingers crossed. It's comforting to know that you have had similar experience, so I can conclude that we haven't been forgotten. We are learning patience, patience, patience. Cheers! All shire/city councils are the same in their quest to make things difficult for u. Take the advice from jayw and personally go to see them. I needed pre approval for a building cos i didnt want to sign with a builder unless i was sure i could get the house i wanted ( i only liked one and didnt want to sign, then find out i couldnt build what i wanted and have to pick something else, when other builders had closer to what i wanted) Cost $50 for this and was granted and then sent by mail to the address of the site of the build, the very address that the council had recently approved a refund of kurb bond from a demolition they had approved. Hence there was no house there, no one living there and no mailbox. Took 2 months to sort this out and $5000 of interest wasted. Wanneroo huh, got a few freinds that build in joondalup. they seem to like it, good size blocks out that way. Check out your block with this new site www.nearmap.com better than google and much more data to go back and check the progress All the best with the build to all of u.
