Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 09, 2009 2:29 pm Hi everyone.
I'm new to this site, so thought I would start off by sharing our house with you. We're building with Celebration homes in South West W.A. It's a display home of theirs, the Gala. It took us many weeks to find a plan we liked, I was constantly changing things and moving walls, our Salesman told us that I was his harshest critic every. Well, for what it costs to build a house I wanted to make sure we were 100% happy with it. This is our floorplan http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/ourhouse.jpg We have a corner block that is 720m2 Our slab went down Late August, we received the phone call the day after having our second daughter. We live 2 hours from where we're building, but our block was on the way home from hospital so we were all very excited to be able to go and have a look. In late September we went for a drive to have another look at our house, and we were shocked to see it actually had walls! http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/7833_282425465310_822400310_8829435.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/7833_282437745310_822400310_8829683.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/7833_283136375310_822400310_8839693.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10623.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10672.jpg Late October, External and Internal walls were finished, and we also had a roof. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10667.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10678.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10680.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10677.jpg A week later we had plaster on our walls. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/sweetsexydevil/SDC10820.jpg So that is our Journey so far Friday of last week I received a call from our builder advising us that the bathroom tiles that we'd chosen were not able to be sourced, And that the tiling was to begin the following week! Because we're so far away from our builder they e-mailed us some photo's so we could make a decision, (lets just hope that it all looks ok in real life) We were also wanting to change our flooring colours. We'd originally chosen a dark Jarrah and our Carpet was very dark aswell, the more I dwelled on it the more I desperately wanted to change those colours. All our furniture is dark, and I think it would all just look too gloomy. Anyway, because of the stuff up with our bathroom tiles, the builder agreed to make the flooring changes at no extra cost So $300 saved there! Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 2Nov 09, 2009 2:42 pm Hi and welcome!!! I'm so excited to finally have another Dalyellup person on here!!! Lol lol you're a bit further along in your build than I am (I'm waiting on a roof!!) The Gala is a great looking plan too!! I'll check out the pics once I've gotten home from work viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 3Nov 09, 2009 2:57 pm Lol, Jodie80 I was just reading your thread and perving on your house pics I've also sent you a PM. I'm very excited about moving to Dalyellup, seems like such a nice community, and close to the beach too. Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 6Nov 09, 2009 8:43 pm Our bricks are Austral Jurien Roof colour is Monument. Sorry just had to drag out my contract to even remember what they were called. Building is so exciting, once it gets going it will all happen really fast. We've gone from Slab down to Plaster in 9 weeks. It may even be further along now as I haven't seen the house for 2 weeks. It will be great when we're finally in. DP works away and we only see him on weekends, living in the new house we'll finally be living together. So scary having a mortgage though! were in our very early twenties lol, but I guess we're lucky as not many people our age get to build their own home. Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 7Nov 09, 2009 9:41 pm Ok!! Have now had a chance to check out your pics!! Bricks are gorgeous, the monument roof looks so good!! And the Gala is a fantastic plan So roomy Can I be a sticky beak and ask which section of Dalyellup you're building in? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. I know what you mean about the mortgage, it's our 1st home too so it's a little scary thinking of how much it's going to cost every week, But at least at the end of the day it's going towards something well worth it Re: aquamarine's house. I'm about 45 kms from your build. ( in Donnybrook) Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 11Nov 09, 2009 10:13 pm Quote: Where are you living now if you don't mind me asking? You are a bit of a distance away!! You must be building near where I'm renting at the moment!! Celebration homes DALYELLUP 13Nov 09, 2009 10:49 pm Yep Augusta if far from everything lol, but I do really love it here. Hopefully one day we'll be able to afford our own place here. I grew up in Perth but still find Bunbury to be really busy and full on but Dalyellup is almost like this little quiet getaway from it all. To all those who already live there any idea what the schools are like? My eldest will be 3 soon so need to atleast get some idea of where to enroll her. TIA Take care everyone! To all those who already live there any idea what the schools are like? My eldest will be 3 soon so need to atleast get some idea of where to enroll her. TIA Take care everyone! At the moment there are two schools. There's the Lutheran School which does K to year 12 (very pricey) and there's the Dalyellup Primary School which caters from K through to Year 4 and then there's the Dalyellup College which does years 5 thru to 12. It used to just be the Dalyellup Primary (K to year 7), but they've recently built the *college* (pretty much just down the road) so split up the Primary school. Apparently there's another primary school being built in The Tuarts area (up towards the top section i think). My son goes to the Dalyellup Primary and I honestly can't say a bad thing about it!! He loves it, and is happy. And has had a good run with teachers too so i'm happy viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Be who you are I think it is, or something similar, I think thats a great mentality to be teaching children Re: aquamarine's house. Celebration homes DALYELLUP 17Nov 11, 2009 2:29 pm Argh!!! we have major drama's again. We went to our closet store to change our carpet and vinyl colours. Choices were made, written down and they said they were available and the exact same price as what we've already chosen. Well the carpet wasnt able to be sourced form our builder at all, so had to go for another 100km drive to chose another carpet. All good. Got a phone call last night to say that the Vinyl we picked its $2500 more than our original choice. Thats no where near our budget. Im so angry, we asked soo many times if our builder was able to get them and that they were the exact same price, continually we were told that they were. So now we need to chose Another vinyl colour. I'm now worried that because of all this trouble and delays that they might end up charging us the variation fee now. Builder is sending us some photo's of vinyl and carpet to make our choices all over again. Not an ideal situation choosing by a photo only, but I really CBF driving 2 hours to the builder and back again with a 2 month old baby and a 2 year old, its all just too much. Anyway, also got told today that our house is at LOCKUP!!!! OMG!!! They think by mid/late February we'll be in there, we were always thinking around April, so that early would be a nice surprise. Hope everyone else's houses are going along well too. Re: aquamarine's house. I'm thinking... late January! And now i'm sooo tempted to hop in the car to see if i can find your house LOL viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. They've told us Mid to late Feb. Argh! IT's so scary, the thought of leaving this little town and heading to the big smoke Quote: And now i'm sooo tempted to hop in the car to see if i can find your house LOL You'd probably find it easily, It's a corner block on a mainish road that starts with M, the other road that our block corners on also starts with an M Just to make it a hunt if you decide to go looking And just to make it interesting, a bit of Drama. I think we now have a bit of a problem. While looking at these photo's I realized that the window in the loungeroom is wrong We had every single window in the house moved up, so they weren't all to the floor (just ease for furniture really) We can't find any paper work that mentions the windows at all, all the changes were made at prestart. If you have a look at our plan, Originally the Alfresco and Sliding door were to be at the End of the house, coming off the Family room. Because of the shape of our block, we moved the Alfresco around, so also the sliding door and I think that's where the mistake has been made. They've swapped the two around, but forgotten to add the part that the Window was to be moved a few courses up, Just like every single other window in the house. So I'm not sure what is going to happen now, Atleast its not a whole wall that requires moving or anything. I'm going to have to contact the builder first thing Monday and see what they say. Has anyone else had a mistake like this, or had to make a change this late into the building process? Hi there! Putting the feelers out there for those who have (or almost) built with Arli homes!
