Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2009 12:15 pm Hi all! We're building with Carlisle at Williams Landing (stage 6) next year and we recently saw that Carlisle had Hills Kocom intercom on range. From my own research, the kit costs $399 from the supplier (one black and white monitor+the door station unit with camera), but we have been quoted a whopping $1269 for installing the same product in our house! I wonder whether anyone else has installed intercom in their house and I'd like to get some idea about cost before contacting Carlisle. Thanks! All it requires is one power socket and a four core cable. Wouldn't imagine it would be that expensive to install, but then again we are talking builders. I rang up Carlisle Homes today and they gave me the following quote: Intercom pre-wiring for 2 monitors: $508 Intercom (Hills) black and white for 1 monitor: $1269 Intercom (Hills) colour for 1 monitor: $1638 Carlisle doesn't do door release as they cannot wire the intercom to the door but they said if you're building a single-storey home you can get it done later with your own electrician. Alarm system pre-wiring: $1066 8-zone Hills reliance alarm system with 3 sensors: $1910 12-zone Hills reliance alarm system with 5 sensors: $2490 Additional sensors: $198 per sensor 2 remote controls: $474 Panic button and upgraded keypad cost extra as well but I didn't inquire. Thought I'd offer this info with other Carlislers. All in all, seems very expensive!! We might reconsider getting the intercom Has anyone got it installed on existing houses? We're building a double-storey home so it might be difficult. Re: How much does intercom cost? 6Nov 28, 2009 9:51 pm It is expensive.. I mean a Swann Doorbell Intercom costs 299 If I get the pre-wiring done for $508 - will it be compatible with other brand of intercoms.. The quote says : "Provide pre wire only for Hills Kocom Intercom".. Thanks Re: How much does intercom cost? 7Nov 28, 2009 10:18 pm That is WAY too expensive for an intercom!! Trust me, you dont need to spend too much on an intercom.... We also built with Carlisle and bought this Swann one from **** Smith for a couple hundred: http://www.swann.com.au/s/products/view/?product=388 Didnt do prewiring through Carlisle, but got an electrician to install for $50. What kind of intercom is the one theyre quoting? Its awesome...even has an alarm to scare the telemarketers away!! Re: How much does intercom cost? 8Nov 29, 2009 12:24 pm We already had a standard intercom in our price but to upgrade to a video intercom with a 3.5inch colour LED screen it was $600 and an additional $495 for an extra monitor upstairs. Builders will always add their 20-25% margin on things but I think they would be taking you for a ride at that price. As we have a flat roof with no crawl space we have to do ALL our wiring now during the build - no second chances to do things after handover. I sure hope we haven't forgotten anything! Re: How much does intercom cost? 9Dec 01, 2009 10:34 am That's what I thought. Massive ripoff! DARING, if you get Carlisle to do the pre-wiring, it will be compatible with other brands of intercoms. Salt&Pepper, the intercom they provide is Hills Kocom. I'd probably not get the intercom installed if that's the price; and see whether I could get an eletrician to do it afterwards. If not, I can live without one. I'll keep everyone updated about it.
