Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 06, 2009 4:14 pm Hi there We've just had final builders interview and they made special mention of 'a lot of soil to be removed' They are cutting in at least 1.5 at the back. No idea how to estimate how much soil. Makes sense to work out a soil removal price with footings contractor as he is digging it out anyway and moving it somewhere. Might as well move it to a truck and take it away PLUS we'll dig right to the back. Anyway, what experiences and costs have you had for this type of work? Per Cubic metre, per tonne, how much in total? In SA specifically but any response is fine, it's a guide on what we might have to allow Thanks Re: Soil Removal 2Nov 06, 2009 7:39 pm Our builder priced in $16.50 per tonne for removal. Originally we had just over 1,000 tonne due to a big cut of 2.6m from the rear - so $17,000 for removal discounted down to $13,000. We since changed to a split level garage (the maximum slope requirements for the garage was causing the issue) which allowed the house to sit higher and the cut to be smaller. So now the only soil removal is from the trenches - $2.5k PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you.
