New Pic 21Nov 17, 2009 5:01 pm Thanks all for your kind wishes and positive feedback Dootbear -- Based on advice from Allcastle re the timeframe for the build, factoring in weather and the Xmas break, we're hoping to be in by June or July next year. Leonard -- Our DA was approved in just 5 short weeks but that was because we did alot of homework to 'dot the i's and cross the t's' As our building footprint was under the magical 35% we didn't have to worry about OSD which was a big cost saver. New Pic 22Nov 17, 2009 11:27 pm Hey there Pix, It is all looking good. Can't wait to see the brickwork too. btw, now that the windows are in, are they what you expected? Re: Not All Castles Are Alike... The Windows Are In !! New Pic 23Nov 17, 2009 11:32 pm Hi RN, Hmmm -- the windows at the front are bigger than I expected. The stacker doors at the back are smaller than I expected. The frosted full length louvre window in the ensuite may not be frosty enough!! In terms of colour they are spot on. Fingers crossed you get a roof before Christmas!! Re: Not All Castles Are Alike... The Windows Are In !! New Pic 26Nov 19, 2009 3:45 pm Pics of Bricks!!! Well not many bricks but a few...LOL They guys have mostly been working around the back and since I can't get around there, this is the best I could manage: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Shot from another angle: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The commons in the foreground are for the portion of the facade to be rendered. Re: Not All Castles Are Alike... Pics of Bricks!!! 19 Nov 28Nov 21, 2009 6:47 am Question of the Day: Can brickwork progress any slower than this?!? Another day...another brick or two!! I'm soooo envious of those of you who get your brickwork done in what appears to be next to no time. We have a small bricking team (no...they're no midgets or little people!!) but small in number. As a result, the bricking is taking ages!! (or so it seems to me) Before this post turns into some weird 'stream of consciousness' dialogue, I'd better post a piccie: Brickwork from the side (where most of the work was done yesterday): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I can't get onto the site easily like so many of you appear to be able to be so my pics are often sullied by mesh fences More next week -- brick by brick!! How many on your team? From what I've read it usually takes about 4 weeks with a team of 2 to do a two storey. Ours took two weeks as we had a team of 4. Re: Not All Castles Are Alike...PICS 20 Nov: One Brick At A Time 30Nov 21, 2009 9:13 am We have a team of 2. I've been told by the SS it will take 4 weeks. I'm just impatient Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Not All Castles Are Alike...PICS 20 Nov: One Brick At A Time 31Nov 21, 2009 10:45 am My house took over 3 weeks and there was 3 of them most of the time and mine is a single storey. My brick work is first rate, so the pace didn't bother me. If they are doing a good job, that's the most important thing. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. "Did we choose the right bricks?", "Did we choose the right mortar colour and join?", "What will the render colour look like against all this?", "Should we have gone for tile rather than a ColorBond Roof?", "Is the roof colour too light against the brick?" etc etc etc I keep telling myself this part is a bit like judging a haircut half-way through when the hairdresser hasn't even finished yet!!! You know what I mean!! LOL Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Not All Castles Are Alike...PICS 20 Nov: One Brick At A Time 34Nov 24, 2009 6:05 pm Hi Pix, just found your thread & have checked it out from the start...I love your brick & the roof & all the other colour selections go well with it.well done on your choices.I think we all second guess everything until we see it come together! Do you have plans of your lovely house that you could post? We are at a similar stage to you...hopefully our bricking was finished today. Bricking has been moving slowly but steadily. At first I was just impatient, but looking at the guys brickwork I have to say I am *very* pleased with the quality of workmanship. Here's where the guys got to this afternoon. The commons are to be rendered: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Another angle: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm told that we're waiting on the scaffolding now and yet another delivery of bricks. DH thinks there may be chance we'll have a roof on by Christmas but I'm not so sure. Anyone care to place a bet?? hehehehe Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Not All Castles Are Alike...NEW PHOTOS!!! Dec 7!! 36Dec 07, 2009 4:49 pm Roof...maybe/maybe not... Our bricking took 3 weeks in total. Then gutters and fascias followed and tiles have been set up on roof, ready for laying out tomorrow. So just over 4 weeks for that process. Saying that, others have had their houses bricked in 2, which still allows a week for gutters, fascia and roof... But then the question is - what date do the tradies begin their holidays? 23rd Dec? Dec 7!! 37Dec 07, 2009 5:55 pm The answer is the very specific, "I dunno" The brickies have been working for 3 weeks now (only a 2 man team) but I'm guessing the roof might depend on whether the builder wants another progress payment before Xmas. DH reckons it won't taken them that long to get the 1st floor bricking done -- so I dunno *shrug*. I would rather them hold off and do a good job with the roof (we're having Colorbond) that slap something up quickly just to get it done before Xmas. Dec 7!! 38Dec 07, 2009 8:20 pm Hi Pix, Your house is looking good & sounds like your brickies are quality layers & that's a good thing now a days!We had a delay in the starting of our bricks but we were happy to wait as we had seen the quality of the brickies work on other builds. It may take longer but you will be happier in the long run. Not sure about the roof as we have tiles & I'm not familiar with the process for colourbond...hopefully it will be on before chrissie. Dec 7!! 39Dec 08, 2009 3:15 pm Thanks Loretta We had another delivery of bricks today and I can't really tell what the brickies did because there are no obvious signs of completed brickwork. Although they do appear to have run short on commons as I saw a bit of the facade to be rendered built with our expensive face brick. Not that I'm complaining...cos I just want it done! hehe The scaffolding arrives tomorrow (weather permitting) so they should be able to start the walls on the 1st floor on Friday (is there an icon for keeping fingers crossed?? ) Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney.
