Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 03, 2009 3:46 pm We are building a house through a builder and have just noticed that some of the bricks (Austral, Geographe Limestone) are getting a green tinge on them. I have found out that this is caused from the vanadium. Who is responsible for cleaning the bricks - the builder or me??? (we are at roof on stage) thanks Re: Bricks going Green!! 2Nov 03, 2009 4:01 pm I have it too and so do others I know, I think it would be the builders problem as they had a choice to send the green ones back or just not use them. You didnt ask for green bricks and neither did we Apparently you can clean them with bleach though. Building with Homebuyers Centre El Questro! Its when they acid wash them, that activates a mineral and in the lighter bricks it causes them to turn green when the mineral hits the air. I'm building using Austral Nougat...but unfortunatley my builder sees it as my problem and therefore charging me $250 for them to go around and clean them with bi carb soda and water!!! (apparently thats what they use). You are going to have to talk to your builder about it.! I would never build with Fowler homes.
