Damage by bob cat 22Oct 30, 2009 11:19 am In Perth - Landsdale It'll probably take more than a week for someone to go out there and do the repairs, plus curing time (4-5 days??). It was just my rough estimate. They may act on it quicker, as they'll want their payment for the slab! Re: Is this acceptable?! Damage by bob cat 23Oct 30, 2009 11:35 am Sorry to hear that. I went on site the other day and saw the bobcat had damaged the edges off my slab, but definately not as bad as yours. I'm building in Landsdale too! Damage by bob cat 24Oct 30, 2009 11:41 am Nup they are talking cement repair... that is no good! ...old concrete to new won't stick at the most critical point. You need to have it repaired with something that will stick... Epoxy repair is the only way! And it is cured in 4-6 hours... I don't need much of an excuse to go to Perth if you want. I could do the repair if you can swing it. Alternatively PM me the inspectors name and Ph number and we can sort it Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Is this acceptable?! I wouldn't have to say anything to our builder if that happened to us. Bruce would have already ripped the guy a new orifice before I had a chance! I know zip about building... I've only ever built a cubby house (a damn fine one too) but I couldn't imagine putting a frame down on an edge that looks like that! God you wouldn't even attempt icing a cake that looked that rough!!! I'd be getting a new building inspector too!!! Sounds like your current guy is a mate of the builder!!! Totally unacceptable whatever the reason especially when there is so much damage not just to one area but also to an adjoining "wall". Re: Is this acceptable?! Damage by bob cat 32Nov 03, 2009 11:16 pm I spoke to the builder today, and she said that their supervisor phoned my supervisor and discussed the damage. I'm waiting back to hear from my supervisor to see what agreement was made on fixing the problem. The lady from the builders said that the brickies will do a damp course anyway (I dont think she had any idea what she was talking about, I found it hard to understand because she doesnt have a clue about construction). Sounds like the builder just wants to slap some mortar on there and call it a day. Onc, can you PM me with an estimate of what you would charge to properly fix the damage. In the building contract it says clearly that we are not allowed to do any work on the site, or contract anyone to do any work on site, but if they can't fix sh!t properly that they are responsible for, then I will have it fixed properly myself. After they handover the keys in 6 months time, I am the one that is going to be left with a house built on a *** foundation. Re: Is this acceptable?! After they handover the keys in 6 months time, I am the one that is going to be left with a house built on a *** foundation. Contract or not... I'd like to see them fight you if you decided to fix it yourself. Would they really want to draw attention (from anyone) to their ******* work? It's a hard line to tread I guess. Part of me would want to scream bloody murder to get them to fix it properly (based on proper external independant advice - onc_artisan???). I'd be willing to go to A Current Affair etc... as I'm sure they'd love to see that very suss looking thing your builder calls a slab. But then how much to you want to get offside with the builder at this early stage? I'd probably accept onc_artisan's offer... and tell the builder you have contacted an independant expert to look at it (they don't need to know where you found him). Then at least they'd be going against an expert if they tried to do a cheap and nasty repair. That would give you a better base (no pun intended) for taking your issue further. Whatever it takes to get what should have been done right the first time. I wonder if the bobcat driver works for the builder or if he's subcontracted. Either way he wouldn't be doing any more work for me if I was paying him!!! Good luck with whichever path you choose. Oh and don't part with your leverage too quickly! Hold that slab payment back until you are happy.
