Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 28, 2009 5:43 pm Hi All, My SS told me the trenches will be dug Monday next week and slab should be completed by the end of the week. I just checked the weather forecast and there is a chance of a light shower on Monday and Tuesday at this stage. Would this hold things up? Does anyone have any first hand experience or knowledge as to whether a light shower would prevent and site works from happening? Thanks Re: Slab preparation with light rain? 2Oct 28, 2009 5:49 pm If it's just a very light sprinkle they will work through it, but anything more than that and they will leave. Our slab pour was delayed because of the two days of rain the previous week- they stopped work at those sites when it rained and so had to make up for it before they cam to do ours. They certainly won't just not go to your site on the day because rain is forecast. They will go and do what they can until the weather gets too bad to keep working. Re: Slab preparation with light rain? 3Oct 28, 2009 8:03 pm Lightsview - we are just around the corner from you. We found heavy showers held things up, but that is because water was pooling and could have resulted in the trenches collapsing in. A light shower, with the weather we've had over the past week will dry up in no time at all. Our slab was poured on a day that had heavy showers the night before and spurts of big down pours on the day. For the slab, they used accelerator to speed up the drying process. But apparently rain on it is a good thing, helps it from drying too quickly and therefore cracking later down the track. I think you should be right next week. I might have to go past your place and have a look... How often do you go past your block? Re: Slab preparation with light rain? 5Oct 29, 2009 10:20 pm We go past on a daily basis. Well, when we know things may happen anyhow. We were told nothing would happen on Wednesday this week so didn't go. But all the other days....we can't help ourselves. Just a quick question, can you access your block easily? Everytime I drive down Folland Ave, the gates are closed to get into Lightsview. The housing seems to be coming along really quickly, but I never see anyone going in or coming out. Maybe there's an alternative access point? This has resulted in the concrete at the back of the house 'dusting', that is, if you rub it, powder comes off. This becomes a problem if you try to glue tiles to the concrete. Not an ongoing problem, after our independent inspector drew it to our builders attention that is, as they only need to scrub it back slightly then seal it with a chemical that binds the concrete. It does slow down the curing of the concrete which I believe is a good thing. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: Slab preparation with light rain? 8Oct 30, 2009 8:40 am That is correct Fiffaro, What has happened is the cement content has reduced where it is effected by rain. When placing concrete and it rains and water accumulates on the slab, granos use a squeegee to remove excess water. With the water some cement will be washed out. A sealer binder is used to stabilized the slurry finish. But if tiles are to be placed then a barrier can make sticking tiles to it difficult. So another tile adhesive is used. TamDaz, at this stage they only have the one entrance open and that is the one that is near the corner of Folland and Fosters.... Go have a look, there is quite a bit happening there at the moment! Re: Slab preparation with light rain? 10Oct 30, 2009 9:31 pm lightsview Go have a look, there is quite a bit happening there at the moment! Yes I will have to do that. Just didn't know where to get in from, I kept thinking that entry was just for the sales and info centre. I drove around the immediate local streets today, but would like to venture over there too given it is still all walking distance. Full marks to your mate. Did you discuss the wet area near the trampoline? 16 17528 Hi, does anyone have any experience with using Trex rain escape or EPDM rubber to waterproof a deck so you have dry space underneath. Popular in the US and realize that… 0 3511 Yes you are correct, unless there are outside works which form part of the contract such as landscaping or driveways, and importantly, the work delayed is on the critical… 1 3639 |
