Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2007 3:04 pm With the cut and fill done on our site the "fill" side of the house will have about 10 concrete piers supporting the slab. Question is, are the piers always put in seperately (before) from the slab being poured? Or they sometimes done at the same time as the slab? On the drawings they are called "internal piers" so we thought maybe they are done as part of the slab...TA!! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Concrete Piers 2Jul 02, 2007 3:32 pm I don't know of any reason either way except for convenience for the concretors managing the pour. Re: Concrete Piers 3Jul 02, 2007 3:41 pm thanks...we had noticed other people have had piers done several days before slab....but ours aren't done yet with slab hopefully going down today, so wondered if they would do at the same time! (hoping they havent forgotton them!!) Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Concrete Piers 4Jul 02, 2007 4:34 pm You’ll find out when your home starts to sink into the bog. But don't hold me on that as we have piers, too, and we completely missed seeing them. So, maybe they're not even there?! How silly - I'm laughing at my own jokes! Anyway, we saw our block on a Saturday and excavation started a couple of days before that. We then saw pipes the following Wednesday with the slab poured by week's end. So, I'm guessing the piers were either done before or after the pipes. But definitely before the slab. Hope that helps! [sneakersss] Re: Concrete Piers 7Jul 03, 2007 10:56 am ta everyone.
We had the excavation done friday before last and pipes/drains done the monday after...but not much has happened since! They did tell us slab expected to be done yesterday but not there!!! The steel bars and mesh and a big pile of little stones etc is all delivered and waiting....probably waiting for a fine day!! maybe today..... Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Concrete Piers 8Jul 05, 2007 2:04 pm Hi Vanderlay,
Do you have any photos to share with us if you don't mind? We are going to have some piers as well in our construction site. We are still waiting for excavation to start, would really like to understand a bit more about the initial processes after excavation done. Cheers Allan http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/ Current stage: old house demolished, contract signed, fence ready, waiting for excavation to start...
