Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 27, 2009 3:05 pm I've finally decided on kitchen colours (colour appointment tomorrow so they very well may change! ) - but can't decide if I want similar colours in laundry & bathrooms, or opposites? And do I want my bathrooms and laundry the same, or a different design in each? Do I have the brain power to actually choose 4 different colour combinations or is that way too much work?? What did you do? Same/similar colours in bathrooms etc? Or different combinations in each wet area?? Cheers Caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... Kitchen is different, Stipple Hemp, Rock Salt and Stringybark. Laundry is combo of both, Smokey Sapelle and Rock Salt. Same floor tile in all areas and they are all similar tones sort of so it ties in. You can't go wrong either way.... some tie it all in.... some make the areas individual. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 3Oct 27, 2009 3:25 pm Hi Caz, I just asked the same question on my thread (link in my signature). I told myself all along I would have one or maybe two colour schemes throughout. Now I have three colour schemes going, one in the Kitchen, one in the bathroom and ensuite, and one in the laundry. I would like the same floor tile throughout the whole house like Joles said. So now I'll have to make sure they all match the same tile. I tried to keep the colour schemes similar so they will hopefully match. But, you should do what you want to do. It's your house. HTH, good luck Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 4Oct 27, 2009 3:32 pm We have chosen different colour schemes for each room. The tiles and laminates for each room are completely different but we have gone with similar (earthy) tones for the entire house. I really think that you have such an opportunity to make a statement in your new home and you should go for it! Be bold, take a chance - and check out my blog if you would like to see what we have chosen. Colour choices are one of the first entries (back in August - I think?!). Good luck and keep us posted with what you choose. Kitchen is different, with blackwood floorboards and glass splashback and alabaster cabinetry. Ensuite colours were done to match master bedroom blue colours, so grey/blue floor tile, silver & blue detail tile, floor to ceiling tiling and cabinetry in gloss white. DH and I should be the only ones who see this room, so I wanted it to match master bedroom rather than the rest of the wet areas. As Walker79 has said, it's very much a matter of personal taste, I suppose - and I guess everyone's rooms are different in their proximity to each other etc. MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 6Oct 27, 2009 4:00 pm Hi there, I have gone for same cupboard colours and tiles etc. to create a theme through the house. With different decorations and towels the rooms will look different. I went for a different colour in every room previously and hated it in the end. But it is your decision as you have to live with it!!! Harribeka Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 7Nov 03, 2009 8:54 pm The ensuite and kitchen are similar but that wasn't deliberate. For the main bathroom, powder room and laundry very similiar. Initially I wanted to have a dark powder room but switched to the fresher look as the timber floors will be enough to highlight the powder room. The ensuite is basically black and white. The other wet areas are mostly white with a "cool/fresh" effect rather than creating a warm/dark effect in which the ensuite will be. The kitchen is quite vibrant however has the contrasting tones of warm and cool. Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 8Nov 03, 2009 8:58 pm Caz, the only thing similar with my bathrooms is that the floor tiles is the same colour!!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Matching or contrasting colours in bathrooms & kitchen?? 9Nov 03, 2009 9:15 pm seems to be just personal preference then i guess!! i ended up doing the bathrooms the same and the laundry a darker variation of them: bathrooms- benches - natural tigris cupboards - pearl bisque kicks - chocolatte laundry - benches - evening tigris cupboards - pearl bisque kicks - chocolatte Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!!
