Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Wall and ceiling insulation 3Oct 27, 2009 6:13 am danyel537 We are in the final stage of our house plan and i'm looking at insulation. At the moment we are getting R1.5 in the external walls and R3.0 in the ceiling. Is it worth to upgrade to 2.0 for the walls and 3.5 for the ceilings. It will cost approx $ 1000 more to do this but what are the benefits. I would like to soundproof some bedrooms, what would be the best product to do this, i have looked at Soundcheck gyprock and Soundscreen insulation, not sure if this would make a huge difference. Danny If you mean "worth", as in economically... definitely not... the energy saving would be FAR outweighed by the $1,000. A quick calc says you would save around $0.20/wk per 100 sq metres, so payback in 100 yrs (plus or minus 50 yrs). That's just a quick calc, @ 10 degees temp. diff., 50 hrs/wk, $0.20/kWh. But it's ball park so not a good idea economically. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy.
