Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 26, 2009 7:46 pm With our first place, we just let the builder know we wanted any left over bricks as they were just going to toss them. That was with a small builder though so it was easy enough to let them know. We managed to create some nice borders and paths with the left overs. We have thousands.... a couple of full pallets that the brickies had opened and used a couple and heaps and heaps and heaps of others. Our site was cleaned that Wednesday so it is lucky we did it. Just a tip, use a wheelbarrow (15 bricks is a comfortbale amount) and wear thick reinforced gardening gloves. The bricks stuff your hands. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Making sure you get to keep the Unused Bricks 10Oct 26, 2009 9:44 pm Bloody hell.. So smart.. Gloves are a good tip; however, you don't get the satisfaction of saying "yup, seem them blisters, I earned 'em". Re: Making sure you get to keep the Unused Bricks 14Oct 26, 2009 10:05 pm Our brickie finished up last week. We get to keep 4.5 pallets woot woot. They usually through them out because they cannot be re-used on another job due to the color variations. 1 catch.. we have to move them all to the backyard Gloves are a must and a wheelbarrow with a nice fat tyre for the rough terrain. good luck [b]Contract signed 3rd May --> Handover mid FEB Re: Making sure you get to keep the Unused Bricks 15Oct 26, 2009 10:06 pm Mine are all stacked at the back of our block, around thirty metres from the back of the house near the horse trail..... so it would be pretty easy for someone to take off with them. We're lucky, not much goes missing from our block. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Better see my supervisor tomoz and hopefully save them Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Making sure you get to keep the Unused Bricks 17Oct 26, 2009 10:29 pm joles I got blisters through the gloves.... I would have been red raw with out them. There's nothing more fun than almost tearing up when you open up a bottle against the "red-raw". The challenge comes in how you play the "Bandaid" game. Do you bandaid up straight away? Do you let the skin heel-over for a day or two before the bandaid? Do you even go the bandaid at all? It's a good challenge! Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 12662 9 24789 Congratulations!
