Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 23, 2009 11:03 am Hi everyone! I apologise in advance for all of my questions! Your input would be greatly appreciated *Did anyone upgrade to have eaves around the entire house not just the facade? I am curious as to the cost involved because my husband would love to have them. We are paying $11,500 for a colorbond roof which he insists on having so I'm curious as to the price range. I could do so many things with that money but it's keeping the peace *Does a colorbond roof come with whirly birds? *We are having refrigerated airconditioning. Do you know if you can tell them where you would like placement of the external unit or at least which side of the house? *My last question is about the placement of the hot water service. Is everyones located on the alfresco side of their house? Has anyone had theirs moved to the other side? I can follow these up with CH but was hoping for you input first. Thanks Building Atlantique 36 At fix stage Re: Questions? eaves, C/B roof, ref. aircon, hot water service.. 2Oct 23, 2009 11:14 am Smelly Melly Hi everyone! I apologise in advance for all of my questions! Your input would be greatly appreciated **My last question is about the placement of the hot water service. Is everyones located on the alfresco side of their house? Has anyone had theirs moved to the other side? I can follow these up with CH but was hoping for you input first. Thanks Can't help with the other questions, but placement of the HWS depends entirely on the design of the house. Ours happens to be on the alfresco side, but only because there's a blank wall there and it's tucked around a corner, out of sight of the alfresco room. We plan to build a timber slat screen in front of it anyway, so it won't be seen from anywhere in the back yard. You might be able to get it moved, but I don't know if there would be a cost involved. And it will depend on whether there's a suitable spot for it elsewhere - you don't really want to see it out of a window.... Re: Questions? eaves, C/B roof, ref. aircon, hot water service.. 3Oct 23, 2009 1:46 pm I built the same house as Kek pretty much and I moved our hot water to the other side of the house, the opposite tot he alfresco side. Will have to check, but the cost was $350 from memory. I moved it for two reasons.... closer to the kitchen, long run otherwise, but the main reason is so all our utilities, clothes line and water tanks will be on the one side that can be closed off from the dogs. They chewed through the Telstra thing here.... not getting another crack it any plastic/wiring in the new house. As for eaves, we have 600mm all around, $66 per metre length. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Questions? eaves, C/B roof, ref. aircon, hot water service.. 4Oct 23, 2009 1:56 pm I can answer some of your questions. Colourbond roofs: standard with our builder but whirly birds were not, we paid extra to have 2 installed. 450mm eaves were standard on our house except for the garage. Refridgerated air con - our unit is at back of house but I know we had a choice on this as I remember considering putting it in another position at the side. We did not have a choice with position of HWS, as it happens it is opposite side to our alfresco area, in the same area as elec and phone junction boxes and on the side of the house where all the wet areas are. This is a gas instantaneous system, might be different for other types of HWS's. Re: Questions? eaves, C/B roof, ref. aircon, hot water service.. 5Oct 24, 2009 12:41 am I am pretty sure the price did not change when I decided to have eaves. I moved my HWS before the build and that cost me nothing. I moved it closer to the kitchen and ensuite and on that same side. Air con I would not put on the west side as that is the hottest side of the house in summer. You can tell them to put is wherever you like. Colourbond roof dosnt come with whirlybird and mine was included in the price so dont know the price difference. Re: Questions? eaves, C/B roof, ref. aircon, hot water service.. 6Oct 24, 2009 7:07 am I have a feeling what is standard will depend on council requirements 600mm eaves came standard on my house. When I got my colourbond roof ("free" when we upgraded to steel frame) we had 1 whirly bird and eve vents included. I added an extra whirly bird - $275. We asked them to move the original placement of A/C to the dead/utility side of the house where our hot water , tank and pump were so they were altogether..didn't cost anything as we did it before contract. The Solar hot water was already where we wanted it.
