Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 22, 2009 4:01 pm The house next to me is currently being built and they must have had a site clean or something today after the brickies finished because I came home and saw that all their brickie sand has been spread all over their driveway area... now the issue is that when they were cleaning the site (I am assuming it was this) they knocked over the temporary fencing which fell onto MY HOUSE and has marked my render on the corner of my house What can/should I do about this? I've taken lots of photo's of it which I will put up later when I have some more time. They also seem to be disconnecting my HWS to use my power which is starting to get annoying (I can tell as the Solar part of it has a green light that flashes when it's turned on within the first 48hrs and then after 48hrs it is a solid light) what irritates me about this is that there is a double powerpoint about 5 metres down the wall with nothing plugged in! Ignore the fact that they are using my power, just don't unplug my bloody Solar HWS! I know it's not the owners fault, but what to do? I would contact the builder and put your requests (fixing of the render and use of the power) in writing and follow up with a phone call. I would send a copy to the owner if you have their details. See how responsive they are. Re: Damage by next door 5Oct 22, 2009 4:30 pm A quick update, the neighbours are there at the moment, I'm not going to approach them about it as I want to see if they will approach me... If they don't I will ring the builder tomorrow I think and tonight I'm going to go put some kind of tape (electrical tape if I can find some) all over my powerpoints to make it clear that they aren't to be removed 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I see it happening all the time around here. But to use power from an obviously occupied house leaves me speechless. Anyway, definitely contact the builder and let them know what's happened. The company probably has no idea, especially if the site supervisor hasn't been out there today. Explain the situation re the damage in writing and let them know that you're arranging quotes for repairs (even if you've done no such thing yet) and will be sending a claim for the costs shortly. Also tell them about the use of your power, and then stick large signs on your outside power points telling the guilty parties pointedly to bugger off. When are your fences going up? Re: Damage by next door 8Oct 22, 2009 5:57 pm That's really rough Lisa, technically they are trespassing on your land, let alone using YOUR power, it's just "not on", we let the tradies use the power on the place next door to our build but we are living there are WE are paying for the power, now that there is power to the new place they use that and we received our first bill from the new place recently, $15 and $12 of that was a supply charge, lowest bill we'll EVER see! All of the tradies prior to power being connected had their own generators on our place and we just offered our power to make it easier for them and hopefully they do a better job, your next door tradies should be using THEIR OWN generators ! Good luck, I hope they compensate you in some way as well as PROPERLY fixing the damage. Re: Damage by next door 9Oct 22, 2009 6:26 pm I think my SS knows the SS from next door as i heard them say g'day to each other at either my PCI or handover day, so I am thinking I might call him and ask him what he suggests to do and I will ask for the contact details of the renderers so I can get a quote. Most likely I will be contacting the builder, but my SS my do something who knows. You can see the blue feet block on top of the fencing keeping it still... yeah too late! Re: Damage by next door 11Oct 22, 2009 6:34 pm Re: Damage by next door 12Oct 22, 2009 6:36 pm That sucks Lisanne! The mortar too I would just phone next door's builder direct if I was you- tomorrow. Give the person at head office the address of the lot next door and say you want to speak to their site supervisor. I had to do exactly the same thing. Not for damage, but next door had a pile of dirt and rubbish half sitting on our block. I rang and left my number at reception, the SS rang me back within the hour, and the problem was solved. They'll pay.... Or you will have to make them pay. Mohaha *evil laugh* Re: Damage by next door - photos 13Oct 22, 2009 7:03 pm So sorry to hear about that, Lisa! To me it's no different to deliberately doing damage! Unbelivable. If they cared about any of the damaged areas, wouldn't they leave a note or anything just to ease your mind overnight until they can explain themselves. I can't believe that they just "didn't notice" what they've done; they must be aware how would it feel to suffer that kind of thing themselves. I wish I'm wrong and things get sorted out early tomorrow! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Damage by next door - photos 14Oct 22, 2009 7:19 pm I would be very, very angry if this was my house. In fact, it has made me angry and it's not even my house! I would ring m3tricon first thing tomorrow and let them know you are not happy at all, send them all the photos if necessary. And I agree about putting tape over your powerpoints and a sign that says "private property" or "not for public use". Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Damage by next door - photos 15Oct 22, 2009 7:32 pm I've put some clear tape over my power point, I think it was the brickies using it and they are done and dusted now anyway. I didn't get photos of the mortar on the aircon either The power usage, while VERY VERY rude doesn't bother me a lot, but it's just more ammo against the builder next door... the Big M will be hearing from me tomorrow if my SS doesn't suggest any other course of action.
