Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 21, 2009 4:41 pm So we are having a few issues with our builder. We are building with Don Russell homes, and so far the experience has been good. However, when we got some pricings at the pre-start, things have turned a little down. Throughout our talks, and in all our drawings, we always specified we wanted the kitchen to be as displayed. That means, a 900mm Stovetop, 900mm oven and 900mm rangehood. In the sheet for specifications, they have decided to give us a smaller stovetop and oven. The rangehood also, is different to what is as displayed. On top of that, in all drawings, including the cross sectional view, all cupboards etc. are there. Now they want to charge us for extra drawers etc. Again, we made it clear we wanted as displayed. We are not at all happy with them trying to pull the wool over our eyes, and hope they will resolve our issues without any problems. However, should the need arise, what higher authorities are there that we can take our issues to? Re: Building new home - Problems with Builder..Higher Authority? 2Oct 21, 2009 5:13 pm Did you sign a contract for what is displayed? Generally nothing in a display home is standard. Which I think is wrong. You need to look at the builders specifications, if it says 600mm oven thats what you get unless you pay extra. Just cause the builder has aircon/carpets in the home dosnt mean you get them unless its in the specificaitons. If a 900mm oven is not in the specification there is no higher authority to go to. It all depends on what you signed off on. If you signed off on 600mm appliances its your mistake you have to deal with. Re: Building new home - Problems with Builder..Higher Authority? 3Oct 21, 2009 5:38 pm On all the drawings, they have 900mm ovens and stove tops. In the specifications, it did not specify, it simply said "Westinghouse oven" etc. Re: Building new home - Problems with Builder..Higher Authority? 4Oct 21, 2009 6:05 pm So they've decided to play ball with the appliances, and have agreed. However, the cupboards/drawers etc. we have to pay for apparently. I can't remember the prices exactly, but again, in the working drawings, these are present... Nowhere is it specified or was it said, that drawers would be missnig! Re: Building new home - Problems with Builder..Higher Authority? 5Oct 21, 2009 7:49 pm So after a bit more talks, they've agreed to include the drawers etc All good then! Re: Building new home - Problems with Builder..Higher Authority? 6Oct 21, 2009 10:13 pm If its 900mm on the drawings, and if the drawings have drawers you should not have to pay extra for it. If there specifications are not specific enough it should not be your fault. My drawers in the vanity were not included which is BS, but that is a tricky way of how builders keep their final cost looking cheaper. It seems like a small company, my small company builder has made many mistakes, a few in my favour. interesting situation what happened after builder issued final invoice? did you list as defect or not does the building surveyor have any responsibility? ie. issuing… 13 46765 I am not a brick expert, but rendering would be 1 option, it would be costly to do the entire house though.... 2 6663 Hi all, has anyone been ask to do the weeds in their property while in the middle of build?
