Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1961May 29, 2011 7:45 pm My take on the situation. I just can't see LCC giving consent as the local opposition will be considerable given that there is now a far greater potential impact on neighbouring residential communities than there would have been in 2006. Add to that the fact that Urbex/ Investa and Benedict have a fair amount of investment at risk with plans for more housing at GF and the waterfront marina etc in the pipeline. So as I see it there will most likely be a rejection at the local government level. However, that's will most likely only be the 1st base as far as Concrete Recyclers are concerned. Ultimately the fight will be with the State government, ie the Planning Department/ Authority. This is where things will heat up - if the Planning Authority view it as a significant industry with employment benefits etc for the wider community then we'll be in for a battle. The support of Urbex/ Investa, Benedict needs to be strong enough to counter the case put forward by Concrete Recyclers. We'll need to strap in for a ride with this one folks. Urbex/ Investa and Benedict will no doubt need to take up the fight also. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1962May 29, 2011 8:05 pm Of course totally forgot that State Government can veto council and allow development to occur. Thanks NSW LABOR, No really......... THANKS for that legacy.... Going on previous postings though Gaz, the line from GF developers mouth peice is that there is already a recycling plant in the immediate area and it is just moving operations 500m south. I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Settlement:22nd June Slab:27th August Frame:16th Sept Bricked:21st Oct Roof:24th Nov Linings HANDOVER23rd March! Hmm, I hope they don't think that a staff of around 35 (what the proposal details) would constitute significant employment benefits for the surrounding area... Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1964May 30, 2011 2:09 pm Hey everyone, just got another drop-off in my letterbox today, from the legal firm of one of our lovely GF residents. In it, he explains a few details with regards to the proposal, and what we can do to fight it - he will also be at the meeting tomorrow night, and will have a petition that he has created, and once enough people sign it, will present to the relevant authorities (council, local government MP, NSW Planning Minister etc), so I encourage all of you to sign it tomorrow night so we can let our voices be heard. I have flicked him an email with this thread's link in it, so hopefully he will have a read and come on to have a chat with us regarding this. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1965May 30, 2011 2:48 pm Hi joannapaulp I was about to ask anyone willing to take the lead in organising a petition for tomorrow's meeting. We should all also meet up to form a working group comprising of volunteers. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1966May 30, 2011 3:19 pm HI joannapaulp, Thats great news! i will be signing the petition! Lets hope we have heaps of people turn up tomorrow night! remember what Jim said you can bring who ever they dont have to live in Moorebank. so bring everyone! See you all tomorrow! Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1967May 31, 2011 11:06 am See you all tonight, we will both definately be there. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1968May 31, 2011 9:30 pm Hi all - the fire is still in the belly and I will be writing, emailing etc whoever I can to fight the good fight BUT recently had a death in the family so have been offline (metaphorically speaking), since my last post. I am amazed at the response and increased exposure you have all managed to achieve in such a short time. Just fantastic...makes me feel even happier to be joining such an energetic, enthusiastic community (scrape within the next two weeks..weather permitting of course). Was feeling angry after seeing some graffiti on my neighbours fencing signs today (F#@k of GF"!), but reading the threads tonigh, between nose blowing and vicks rubs, has renewed my spirit. Unfortunately was not able to get to the community meeting (kids and I have had the flu for over a week and thought it best to keep our germs to ourselves). I am dying to find out what happened and what our next steps should be. So...... any news??? On another note - congratulations Bek on the pregnancy and to all those who have recently had their land registered. Great progress has been made down near the golfcourse and, despite our minor hiccups with changes to plans at the last minute (thank the Lord we visited the Rheem stand at the Home Show) we should also be on our way soon. Now if we could all just band together to get the rain to stop! Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1969May 31, 2011 10:03 pm ------------------------------------------------ MY THOUGHTS ON TONIGHT'S MEETING ------------------------------------------------ Hi everyone, Well - that was certainly an experience! I will try to write a more detailed post in the next few days once I get over the shock of tonight. My initial thoughts are as follows: 1. The lady running the meeting was not particularly skilled at this sort of thing and I am totally surprised that she makes a living out of it. 2. I did not appreciate how they attempted to control the meeting unnecessarily, especially with regard to putting us into allocated groups, the colour coded debacle, asking half the people to leave, etc. 3. I thought it was very interesting that the developer did not wish to comment on the asbestos issue. 4. I think the answer to the question about 'toxins' was not acceptable. 5. I am glad someone raised the issue of the impact on land/property values, as this has been ignored by the developers so far. 6. It is a shame that J***ie was shut down at the end and not allowed to speak. 7. I was hoping we could have a residents meeting at the end, however, it kind of fizzled. 8. There are still a lot of unanswered questions and many of the developer's responses were unsatisfactory. 9. I am glad the developers were surprised by the turnout! I am not sure where we go from here and I am open to ideas. I think we need to continue to kick up a stink about all of this and send letters and emails to Liverpool City Council, Bankstown City Council, the State members for Liverpool, Menai and Bankstown, the Minister for Planning, this independent planning commission (I am not sure if this has even been set up yet) and the Premier. MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE ALL NEED TO PROVIDE MORE FEEDBACK TO JUDITH STUBBS AND ASSOCIATES (info@judithstubbs.com.au). (Their size-reduced form is designed to limit the feedback we supply). WE ALL NEED TO WRITE A MORE DETAILED CRITICISM OF THE PROPOSAL AND SEND IT TO info@judithstubbs.com.au. DO NOT RELY ON THE HAND-WRITTEN FEEDBACK YOU PROVIDED TONIGHT, AS IT NEEDS TO BE MORE CONSIDERED AND MORE DETAILED. In addition, you should CC all of your written communication with Judith Stubbs and Associates to the Planning Department directly, as who knows how Judith Stubbs and Associates will twist our words and leave things out. I noticed that their scribes were not taking every point down. This is important! I noticed that a petition was circulating during the meeting. I hope everyone had the opportunity to sign this. If not, the person organising it might like to come on here and indicate how others can sign up. Hopefully with Georges Fair and Benedict Sands on our side, we can fight this was some corporate muscle. Any other ideas? Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1970May 31, 2011 10:09 pm HI everyone, the meeting tonight was good, but J**y really anoyed me, she could organise anything. I will be calling Mirvac tomorrow, im not sure if they know about it. They will have an interest due to their coming development in the golf course. maybe a bit more corporates behind us will help. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1971May 31, 2011 11:00 pm Hi All I am still trying to get over this meeting. I am really glad to see so many of us at the meeting, more than I have expected. Many thanks to those doing the maildrops around the areas and the words of mouth of many. This is only the start and we need to build up the momentum. Let us have a rest these couple of days and then let us start to work out our plans of action. Today, we have achieved something ... good attendance; 4 Councillors attendance; J****e and MD of Benedict. I bet that the developer was in a stage of shock. His face was so red! Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1972May 31, 2011 11:45 pm Hi all , I am building on Christiansen Blvd, I was at the meeting tonight and agree with MnM2. But as residents we have to fight this as hard as we can. Alot of residents of Georges fair who were at the meeting now know about this forum , myself included. We have the support of many so lets try and do something about this. J***ie has everybodys email in Georges fair , so we must act now. We have the support of Benedict ( he knows the business inside out, he is willing to help ). We have the support of many residents and just people who care. Lets fight for Georges Fair , our community. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1973May 31, 2011 11:49 pm A rest is a good idea, I need to cool down I was so hot in the room, but I feel that many people do not know who the players are in this. I am even more opposed now than I was when this first came to light, I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1974May 31, 2011 11:54 pm Wow - the meeting was quite intense. I'm so glad SO many people turned up! I agree, the facilitator of the meeting was not up to scratch and some people who spoke were a little rude which was upsetting, but understandable given the emotions people are obviously experiencing - I think the facilitator couldve tried to understand a bit better... I am so pleased to have councillors on our side, as well as GF developers (although I felt J couldve had others by her side.... Like CEOs from Urbex and Investa for start - to me, they are one of the main stakeholders here). Good to also see Benedict sands reps there. I agree, Mirvac should be contacted. I'm going to email the journalist who spoke tonight and ask if she needs input into her story and I'm happy to give my opinion. I did speak tonight (right at the end) but was too hot (the heating was just too high in that place) so left straight after when I wouldve loved to have hung around. I think we need to put pressure on the people that matter - ie the planning body who will ultimately refuse/allow this development. Approval isn't up to council so as nice as it is to get them involved (and how lovely and supportive were they tonight) the people who say yes or no need to be pestered. We don't need a commercial entity in our family-friendly residential area!!! Does anyone have a few spare million they could throw at these people to buy them out!??? :p Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1975Jun 01, 2011 12:09 am I have a relative who is involved with the Libs , i will be speaking to him tommorrow to find out if he can give me some contacts to speak to. Will be emailing the radio stations Eg: Ray Hadley ect to voice concerns of residents. I took some petitions and will be getting signatures from plenty at work. Believe me alot of signatures I wish I had spare millions but Clarendon took whatever I had , I would not be alone. But all we have is our voices and determination in beating the big boys. Once this is all over and we win then we should all get together for celebration drinks. Fingers crossed. Unity always provails. cheers Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1976Jun 01, 2011 7:00 am Hi All We should do any maildrop. I suggest the contents in the maildrop include: 1. What was said to us 2. What we asked 3. What they answered 4. What our concerns 5. What remained unanswered We need to get more people into this forum as this forum is now our central mouthpiece to reach everyone. I suggest this time we include the name of this forum on the maildrop. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1977Jun 01, 2011 9:32 am Hi , everyone is praising the councilers however its the council that have granted them access to use there land to access their property, without access they could not have put their application through. I also think the fight should be taken up with liverpool council to withdraw support for the access road, which means the developers application would be withdrawn from the minister and they will need to find a new way to get access , which may lead to legal action thus costing money and time. GF and Bendicts must have alot of contacts within council so if we can rally around them to push to withdraw the access , this may slow down or close down the development. Another point why did council allow access without consulting the residents in the area? Lets get this road access withdrawn Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 1978Jun 01, 2011 10:28 am hi, the rezoning of the land and the plans for the access road were put in place a long time before there were any residents, but I doubt they'd consult the residents anyway. I am glad someone raised the issue of the impact on land/property values, as this has been ignored by the developers so far. 7. I was hoping we could have a residents meeting at the end, however, it kind of fizzled. 9. I am glad the developers were surprised by the turnout! 7. 'twas my pleasure 9. Which was very surprising to me, as they apparently expected 70 people, which means when I RSVP'd for 8 people, i apparently RSVP'd for 10% of the expected turnout - didn't realise I was that special, lol We actually hung round till 9 talking with the guys from Benedict (MD and lawyer dude), a few other people, the journo etc - there was discussion of having to form an action group thing, which I believe the Benedict guy was hinting that he would help fund. Apparently, if they don't get their application into the state planning office in the next three months, then with the changes to clause 3A of the act (which O'Farrel gov't is plannign to scrap), it will then have to go through council as well - which will be good for us as they don't want it either - as demonstrated by Jim and the other councillors there last night.
