And if so, who you used? Thanks, Kate I'll be interested in this information as well, have you had any contact with your neighbours about splitting cost? My build is almost complete and I have no idea what to do next in regards to getting the fence done. Hope some people here can shed some light on their experiences. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5953Mar 08, 2015 6:36 pm Just talk to your neighbours about splitting the cost. You are all in the right to get your own quotes, then discuss the cheapest and best option for all. You basically split the cost down the middle. We didn't get any survey done. We just measured off our houses to what our plans showed and got it installed. Not that hard really. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5954Mar 11, 2015 1:32 pm Scared1stTimeBuilder Atri, I may not be aware so please enlighten me on how ''we'' are dealing with it? Moorebank Materials Recycling Facility- yes, I agree that there is/was a group organised to tackle that issue and I went to a few meetings, only around 30 residents attended....bearing in mind we live in an estate with around 1000 dwellings so that is around 3%. I fail to understand how the forum gets so many comments/feedback re name change but when it was suggested to put our case forward re the new development and concerns re access point/s to Brighton Lakes development....well pretty much zero response/support of that matter. I know that my comments above may cause an outrage by some on this forum BUT........... I am sorry to say, name change will not add extra value to your house. Increased traffic, pollution, noise, congested roads (doesn't matter throughout the estate or just around the estate, in the area) and lack of amenities will slow down capital gain on your property. I understand your concerns regarding the extra traffic flow through the estate but have you thought through your proposal to have another access point to the golf course estate? Where will that point be? The golf course is bounded by a river, a freeway, other houses on Nuwarra Rd and finally Brickmakers Drive. Where are you going to put your new entance? Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5955Mar 11, 2015 2:04 pm HoudaMan I'll take a guess we will be stuck with just "Nuwarra". Does anyone actually know what Nuwarra means? Nuwarra for me too. Anything with Waters or Lakes sounds like marketing blurb. With respect to all us people who live in Moorebank the suburb has working class and "westy" connotations. Nuwarra, I think, will give the area an exclusive sounding name and could even lift property values. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5956Mar 11, 2015 8:07 pm Just a quick heads up to any GF residents looking at landscaping. I have been told by a few neighbours in the estate about KC Landscapes. He has actually used photos of other landscapers work for his own adevertising even with their sign clearly in the background and claimed it to be his. I am happy to recommend any good trade but this is far from it so please be aware if you do require any form of landscaping. Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5957Mar 11, 2015 8:17 pm Hi everyone
I've been building a two story home in George's Fair for the last 8 months. The house was ready for handover about two weeks ago but when the builders started to wash the bricks, some areas were very damaged and other areas were not too bad. You could pull parts of the brick out from the walls (on both sides of the house and some on the back and front too). It was quite a substantial area of the house so we inquired Clarendon and they said they would have a look at it. One week later after some emails and calls they asked do you just want to proceed with the handover. Obviously we were not happy about that. We had to drive up to head office to speak with someone there since the on site team weren't very helpful. After someone from head office inspected our home they sent us a report and outlined what they wanted to do. They said that the bricks were sprayed with a hose with too much pressure, or too much acid, and that's what caused the bricks to crumble and break. At first they said they were gonna render the damaged areas on the sides of the house, but now they want to fill the damaged areas with cement. What I want to know is the structural integrity of the house in jeopardy because of the damaged bricks? Should I get an outside contractor to fix it up? Any advice in general would be much appreciated. It's been a hassle and we want to get this finished as soon as possible. Here's a link to the damaged areas http://i.imgur.com/jOLnpvL.png EDIT: Sorry it wasn't the brick that was damaged but its the mortar. You can sort of pull your fingers through the mortar and it will fall out of its place as its very soft. Not all of it but mainly the outside edges of the brick. We're just worried wind or rain may cause the mortar to deteriorate and thus may affect the structural integrity of the house in the long run. Is this possible? Re: Anyone building at George's Fair, Moorebank? 5958Mar 11, 2015 9:37 pm I am sure it is not structural. It would only be cosmetic. Too much acid would not cause brick to fall apart. I actually would not think that too much pressure would cause this either. I think it could be a bad batch of bricks. Clarendon would not remove and re-brick. And I would not accept patching it with cement, especially where brick should be...You may have to push to render, and I would say the whole house as by the looks of it you have patches everywhere. My house has been broken into twice in the last few weeks! It has now significantly pushed back our handover date! Not very happy! That is a worry, was anything taken or vandalized? Such disappointing news. This has got me a bit worried now as our wire fence has now been removed. I might have to make more regular evening visits.
