Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 21, 2009 1:52 am Hi We are just signing off on our electrical plan and need a bit of help. The builder has quoted $49 to fit down lights over and above a bayonet fitting (downlights to be supplied by us) and other light fittings (outside wall lights etc) - is it worth getting them to do it or will it be a lot cheaper getting someone else in. There is obvously a price to pay for getting it all done at once prior to moving in, but not sure what that should be. Cheers Re: Lighting - what to get the builder to do? 2Oct 21, 2009 8:03 am My downlights were $100 ish so I would say go for it with your builder. Electricians charge about $60 an hour, minimum of 3. I would get the builder to do it, saves the hassle and if there are any problems your builder deals with it not you. I have my single garage light fitting 1 meter away from the centre of the room, so my builder is dealing with the sparky to get that sorted. Re: Lighting - what to get the builder to do? 3Oct 21, 2009 10:30 am Seems like a reasonable price to me. I would get the builder to do it. Re: Lighting - what to get the builder to do? 4Oct 21, 2009 10:30 am We've done the same as you, owner supply, builder install, for all our lights and they are charging $48 to fit each light. It does cost a bit especially having to buy the lights on top, but as PP said, you can contact builder for any problems. We only got the builder to do minimal in our last house and were going to do the rest afterwards, but 2 years later, they were still not done lol. It was another of those add to the list to do later jobs that never got done, and that list was huge, so this time, we've just got builder doing everything we want (except floors and concreting) Re: Lighting - what to get the builder to do? 5Oct 21, 2009 5:50 pm Great, thanks for the replies. Must say Rizzo, I have a feeling we will be in the same position if we said we would do it ourselves later........I am always getting grief for not doing the 'list' of jobs (think I lost it a few years ago)....
